All the money spent on clothing and makeup can be in vain if hair isn’t properly groomed, or so we thought pre-COVID.  You may have noticed that some people are a bit more relaxed about this having been in the same boat as everyone else for the last 20+ months.  The secret could be in the hair care tools you use along with the products that accompany them.

    Starting with Product

Let’s start with the products that help you style, thicken and then protect your hair from the heat of your styling tools.  After using a quality shampoo and conditioner meant from your hair type, you can choose a styling product if you like.  Depending on your finished style you may desire thickening lotions or sprays, styling mousse, curling lotions or hair relaxers.

The hard truth of the matter is that most everything we do to our hair – colour, brush or style – takes a toll.  Of all the things we do to contribute to hair damage, heat styling, just may be one of the worst.

    Use a Protective Spray

Don’t give up your styling tools though.  All you need to do is to make sure to prep your strands with a good heat protective spray.  A good, effective spray will minimize flyaways as well as add moisture and help fortify strands against frequent heat styling.  Think of it as sort of a sunscreen for your hair.

Not only does the heat protectant act as a protective barrier between your hair and styling tool, but it also helps to smooth the hair follicles leaving shiny and healthy looking hair.

    Drying Your Hair

A good hair dryer, air brush or hot brush not only adds sparkle to your hair, but does so quickly and efficiently, drying it quickly to minimize damage.  Choose a good hair dryer – ceramic or infra-red to prevent breakage or damage to your hair.

    And Styling...

Then you can choose between flat irons for sleek straight hair, curling irons, wands or deep wavers for the curl style you’re looking for.  Note: very few people use rollers in their hair anymore as the process is not only time consuming but uncomfortable.

The difference between a curling iron and a wand comes down to the type of curl you desire.  A curling iron creates a strong, shiny and distinct curl that will last very well with a finishing spray, while a wand creates curls of varying size that are looser and  more natural looking.

Deep wavers are one of the newer styling tools of the trade.  Fun and fairly easy to use, they create those sought after summer beach waves that are so casual looking.

    Your Brushes...

Don’t forget one of your most important styling tools – your round brush.  Purchase your brush according to the length of your hair.  A small brush works very well with short hair, while a larger brush handles those long tresses.

Now that you’ve got your style where you want it, use a finishing spray and/or anti-humidity spray to keep everything picture perfect.
