Chicken, Ribs, Pork even Salmon at Irie Jerk!

Oh my!  My mouth waters every time I think about dinner ordered from Irie Jerk!  Deciding to find out more, we connected with Tinee Campbell to “Uncover” their story.

Irie Jerk was created in a very unusual manner.  Three men, now known as the “3 Fathers of Irie Jerk” started out by bringing their home cooked meals as lunch while on Shift at Honda.  It didn’t take long for other employees to notice the wonderful aromas of the meals and ask if they could have some.  The delicious meals soon became a standard lunch time fare for over 80+ employees!

Realizing that authentic Jamaican cuisine was so well received in the area, the decision to open a restaurant was easy.  On February 22nd, Irie Jerk celebrates its 1st year anniversary!   What a year they’ve had!  A new restaurant opening just before the world shut down due to COVID!  We really must celebrate with them!

Everything on the menu at Irie Jerk is made in-house.  Their recipes are so protected that the “3 Fathers” are the only ones to prepare and season the meat!

Known as “The Best Jerk North of the Island”, their menu takes jerk seasoning to a whole new level!

When we’re allowed to travel, Jamaica is a stop I often make.  I love the everyday dishes on the island – and that’s what I find on the Irie Jerk menu.  Everything from Jerk Chicken to Curried Goat…even Oxtail!

Between Curried and Jerk meats there’s much to choose from.  On Fridays and Saturdays there’s even Jerk Salmon!  Truly, I can’t wait to try that dish!

Because of their one year anniversary this month, there are some extra nice specials to be had.

Mayors Bring Their ‘Eh Game!

Canada’s Top Mayor Award has teamed up with Canadian Comedian Adam Growe of Cash Cab to present #BringYourEhGameQuizShow to local viewers nationwide!

Introducing Dawn!

Show creator Dawn Mucci, a local resident, who we know from past articles on our Barrie Uncovered website, explains:

“I was inspired by Mayors like Bonnie Crombie and Naheed Nenshi who were already doing great work in their municipalities to support their local food banks.  I wanted to amplify that effort by collaborating with Mayors and all Canadians to Bring their Eh Game on a national level to help those struggling with food insecurity.  Not only is the show fun and entertaining, but we also get to learn more about Mayors and their community’s best attributes as well as the people, places, and things that make their cities and towns special.”

Keep the Date!

The virtual web series will be live streamed weekly on social media and Rogers community TV stations across Canada.  The premier episode will be live on Facebook @CTMAWARD, March 7th at 7pm.

And the Mayors Are:

This very fun food challenge will feature Canada’s Top Mayor Award nominees from St. John’s NF, Mississauga ON, Halifax NS, Yellowknife NWT, Orillia ON, Drumheller AB, Innisfil ON, Brampton ON, Barrie ON, and many more!

The Mayors will have their trivia skills tested for sure…and what a great cause!  Even before COVID, food banks across Canada were seeing over one million visits each month.  Now with donations decreasing, grocery bills increasing and reduced volunteers, continuing financial support is very necessary.

As Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie says:

“I always love some good-spirited mayoral rivalry, and this was such a fun way to showcase the best our cities have to offer.  But above all, this is about supporting those most in need.  Now, more than ever, our Food Banks need our help to ensure our most vulnerable residents don’t go hungry.”

And Our Host...

On that note, Host Adam Growe tells us:

“In addition to an entertaining and fun show, viewers can play along interactively with me and challenge the mayors during the show to win great prizes.

All the Details

Details will be available on the broadcasts and here.  Future episodes are being planned to continue the fundraising efforts and feel-good vibes.  Mayors and community partners are invited to join the effort here or donate directly here.

All in all, we can look forward to an excellent view of other cities across Canada as well as having a bit of fun, don’t cha’ think?

WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED – with window coverings!

WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED - with window coverings!

So many window treatments!

There’s a lot that goes into creating the design and decorating of our homes.  I know that I sometimes search endlessly for paint chips and patterns to create the ambience that I desire.   An Interior Designer has suggested to me that window coverings are a vital part of those decisions and that the trend in fashion today is to create a layered look in my rooms.

Sometimes the room itself dictates which window treatments I should be using as the architecture of the building won’t allow drapery or curtains, making blinds my best option.

Start with the basic treatment

Blinds are so varied now, offering many choices for each room, and while I don’t want them to have identical window treatments, I do want consistency.  ( offers many options to dress up your windows.  I’ve looked into flat rolled shades, for a minimalist look – or luxurious wooden slatted louvers for dramatic flair.  The possibilities are endless!

I’ve found natural woven shades are a great choice to use throughout my home, dressed up with drapery to suit the decor of each room.  Sometimes I like to be a bit playful with light and shadows – then I choose the slatted louvers from a wide variety of colors to add to the mood.

Once I’ve decided on style and functionality I think about the maintenance and durability of my choice.  I know that these qualities ensure that I have chosen something for a lifetime.

Choose for the use of the room!

I find that window coverings rather than draperies are great in any house with children and pets or rental/vacation homes.  Moist or damp environments such as workshops or basements as well – actually anywhere cleaning time and maintenance is a premium.

Top choices from today’s designers include wooden blinds, cordless blinds, roller shades and bamboo blinds.  If you’re like me and have a tough time deciding, call Luke at 2goblinds, (416) 707-9887.  Luke is a great resource with the knowledge and sales experience that will make your final choices and installation an easy process.  Check what he has at

Hemp is becoming a very popular plant these days.  Not too long ago it was actually illegal to grow.  Here, let me explain:  Hemp is a varietal of the Cannabis Sativa plant.  This plant, like bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet.  Hemp was considered so important that it was listed as one of the five essential plants in The Vedas (an ancient text).  So important, that it was a form of legal tender in early North American settlements.  In fact, Henry Ford’s first Model T was built to run on hemp gasoline as well as being constructed of the product.  Not only was hemp used to make shelters, sails and food…it was also used in making medicines.

Hemp was listed in the United States Pharmacopeia in 1850.  Its uses were listed as aiding with everything from hysteria to tetanus.  Many forms of hemp were found in OTC products until 1937.  Our ancestors didn’t have our technology back then so they couldn’t differentiate between hemp and marijuana…which finally caused the government to intervene, marking 1938 as being the year that hemp was outlawed.

Behind the scenes many researchers were still studying the plants abilities and pressure was focused on the governmnet to look at changing the laws.  Finally between 1994 and 1998 researchers proved that hemp and marijuana could be categorized seperately making hemp products legal again.  Finally the first license in Canada was issued to grow commercial industrial hemp once more.

CBD oil comes from harvesting the whole plant, whereas hemp oil is found by pressing the seeds only.  Both products have strong nutritional values such as Omega 3 and 6 oils, antioxidants, gamma linolenic acid and vitamins B and D.  It’s at this point that the two products begin to differ.  Hemp seed oil is great for heart health, eczema, lupus and arthritis to name a few, where CBD oil helps these as well as much more.

Research suggests that CBD oil derived from hemp may aid with sleep, anxiety and pain.  It’s now used for epilepsy, depression, inflammatory skin conditions and neurodegenerative conditions.

It’s this continuing research that takes us to Tina Arnold, Owner of Eternal Image Consulting.  In addition to offering a wealth of knowledge, Tina also offers you an affordable, hassle free alternative to CBD.  With Hemp seed oil as the base ingredient, it’s a combination of 17 carefully selected medicinal herbs, 7 types of ginseng and Manuka honey offering a valuable alternative to CBD.

Being both a Consultant and Nutritional Coach allows Tina to create a care plan suited to your individual needs.
