TGIF: Hit The Accelerater

Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.


And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.

With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.


This week why don’t you try…

Accelerated Stall IIPA – Barnstormer’s

TGIF: HIT THE ACCLERATOR

Beginning with a hazy translucent dark yellow brown, the fall-esque coloured first pour leaves a drizzle of creamy head.

Following the initial pour, expect a menagerie of pleasant smells. Herbal, floral, lightly citrusy with grapefruit and somewhat piney hops come to the surface first. That gives way to toasty caramel malts and hops.

On the whole, there is potency and old flavour, but not overpowering. You’ll find the hops balanced, and even somewhat subdued by malts leaning toward a toffeelike scent. A light resiny pine shines through, with mixed bag of herbal, floral, and citrusy/rind to support it. The aftertaste does provide a slight kick, with equal parts spice and bitter.

Accelerator emits a medium carbonation, generally creamy but on the thinner side of thickness. It’s more of a drying coating.

Coming in a tall boy that can purchased directly at Barnstormer’s, this is an overall rather complex flavour that is quite balanced with hoppiness. Unlike other similar beers, it is not as bitter as the IBU would suggest.
