COMEDY, CONCERTS AND ART BATTLES HAPPENING IN AND AROUND BARRIE THIS WEEKEND
As months go, April has alot to offer. Spring flowers. The start of the NHL playoffs. An abundance of Easter chocolate.
And yet, April is also tax season…which is met with about as much enthusiasm as an invitation to swim with live squid.
So put off filing your report to the CRA for a few days! Take advantage of the myriad events April has lined up in and around Barrie this weekend.
Keep in mind that you can find them all listed, as well as events coming in the days ahead on our events page.
CONCERTS & COMEDY
Don’t forget that we post a full calendar of concerts every week in Barrie. And we are ALWAYS on the lookout for local artist performances. If you are playing anywhere in town, fire the deets to [email protected] We’ll be sure to post your gig!
It’s another jammed weekend at the Foxx Lounge, with Sts Promotions bringing in a couple of hardcore acts from the Hammer on Friday to play alongside Barrie’s own The Speed Humps. Saturday will be a treat for those who enjoy a dash of international flavour in their musical cuisine. Scotland’s Atlas Empire leads the ticket with their invigorating blend of prog and ambient. They’re in town for one night only, flanked by Barrie’s The Grey Eyes and Lost Light for support. It’s always cash at the door, so be sure to bring some bills.
If comedy is more your thing, Perplexcity debuts their new weekly comedy series on Saturday night. The Escape Room has renovated and is now offering an event space. It’s 19+ with local comic Greg Enright hosting.
What would a mash up of a Battle of the Bands with Bob Ross look like? This Saturday at the Five Points theatre might be the closest answer we get.
The first ever Art Battle in Barrie happens at the Five Points Theatre. Watch the paint fly before your eyes during 3 twenty-minute rounds and vote to determine the event Champion.
The event is actually part of the Art Battle Canada National Tournament, and the winner will ‘move on’ to participate in the July 25th National Championship event in Toronto. And half the gate goes to local artists. It all kicks off at 6pm, with tickets available online or at the door.
The annual “dress up like a rabbit for a good cause” event returns to Heritage Park on Sunday. Families can walk, run…or hop in support of Deaf Access programs in Barrie. And of course there will be an Easter egg hunt, as well as vendors and fun stuff for the kidlets.
BONUS UNCOVERED EVENT! BIG BIKE SALE
Did you know that Barrie has a massive bicycle community? And among them is Firebird Community Cycle, a dedicated non-profit who work with youth to refurbish discarded bikes and make cycles more accessible to the city.
Sunday is their annual sale. Funds generated going help the group to, among other great things, provide bikes to low income and in need persons and youths. You’ll find them at 134 Anne street south on Sunday at 10am.
Have an event in Barrie that you want to promote? We want to hear about it! Send an email to [email protected] and we may post it!
