The Weekender is brought to you in partnership with The Queens Hometown Bar & Grill: The home of live music in Barrie and your destination for great food and great times!
The Weekender: Nov. 26th
The Christmas season is well and truly upon us. If the abundance of lights and decorations isn’t enough to convince you, the increase in vacant staring gentlemen wandering malls on desperate gift buying trips is a dead giveaway.
For the Santa and elf enthusiasts, there is a multitude of festive themed happenings around Barrie to enjoy. And for the few who want to hide from all things Noel, we’ve got something for them too.
Scroll on for our weekly check in with Saturday and Sunday events in Barrie.
Parades & Christmas Markets
Last week saw the arrival of Barrie’s biggest Xmas tree, and St. Nick’s tour of the town.
Innisfil is next up for the big man, with a drive through parade happening at the rec complex, on Sunday. Father Christmas also makes an appearance at the Barrie Country Club, for brunch.
And if you are on the hunt for a market to knock a few vendor inspired items off the list, head out to Quayles Brewery.
Home Brew Exchange @ Flying Monkeys
Flying Monkeys is already home to some of the best beers in Barrie. And this weekend it is home base for local crafters to show off their ale skills.
The 7th annual cottage county brewers homebrew beer exchange happens on Sunday, hosted by Hopback Home Brewing. It’s $10 to participate, with all admission fees going to the Barrie food bank.
You can reach out to [email protected] to get on the list.
Winter Hike
There are two ways to handle the first big snowfall in Barrie. Cry loudly and hide under a pile of blankets hoping that some universal intervention will make it go away. Or embrace the beauty of the season and get out for an invigorating winter walk.
We’ll concede that option one does have some appeal. (Particularly when it comes to scraping the car for the 78th time in a week.)
But the soft crunching of snow under your boot whilst strolling through nearby nature trails can be a soothing experience on a Sunday afternoon. Need some inspiration? Check out our list of local hiking destinations to get started.
