The Weekender – Feb. 4th
If you got through this week without yelling at the sky and downing a large margin of vodka, you deserve a medal. The snow, the school closures, the seemingly never ending shoveling…it was enough to convince even the most ardent winter devotee that life in a Tahiti beach hut is worth considering.
Luckily, the weekend is here. And with it, ample excuses to ignore the stresses of the daily grind and focus on fun.
Scroll on for a trio of things to do when Friday hits…
Live Music, Live Music, Live Music
Okay, we admit that this headline is slightly overkill. But having gigs to talk up again is worth repeating!
Ditch the dishes and treat yourself to a meal out at any of Barrie’s scintillating eateries that double as a music venue.
The British Arms, Malones, Flying Monkey’s and of course, The Queens all are packed with performers and/or DJs this weekend.
Open Air Dunlop
Speaking of live music, the stage at Meridian place will feature a plethora of performers for the year’s first Open Air Dunlop.
Downtown’s main thoroughfare will be closed for most of Saturday as visitors enjoy ice sculptures, hot chocolate, vendors and more.
It also serves as an unofficial kick off for this year’s Hello Winter festivities. Lights, exhibits and seasonal inspired activities will be on display through the whole month.
Snowshoe and Chili Cookout @ Snow Valley
Nothing beats the chills like a steaming bowl of chili, and you can enjoy a warm up along with a hike at Snow Valley this weekend.
Embark on a guided trek under the moonlit skies every Saturday in February. There’s a stop at the midway point at an open bonfire, where a hot bowl of chili (and s’mores!) are provided.
Moreover, headlamps and equipment are provided, and registration is required.
