LAST MINUTE IDEAS FOR MARCH BREAK FUN

March break is upon us!

And that means the kids are home from school for the week, which is great!

….until the inevitable cry of “I’m bored” echoes through the house (usually around hour 3 of Day 1)

Fortunately, Barrie and the surrounding areas are awash with answers when that chant does emanate from your living room.

And if you procrastinated on finding some stuff for the younger generation to do, don’t stress. We’ve got you covered.

Read on for ideas to entertain the entire clan at short notice for the coming week!

Last Minute March Break Guide

CAMPS

Thanks to the great response to our FB query, we found a load of great local programs being offered that still have spaces open.

Cheer Pride All-Stars, HBC Girls and Urban Pallete DIY are all still looking for entries.

DROP INS

Jack’s Urban Jungle

The ideal place to go if…how do we put this diplomatically?…If you want to completely exhaust your crew with high intensity fun and physical activity.

Zorbing, Bungee Trampoline, the Leap of Faith and one of the only Indoor side-by-side Ziplines in Canada. (25 ft high, 30 km/hr and 200ft long) are just a few of the way cool activities offered at the Jungle.

Any budding Ninjas in the house? Unleash them in the Ninja Warrior course. Dodge ball kings or queens? Test their evading mettle in the Arena. Open every day of the break.

Kings And Castles Play Center

Speaking of gently exhausting the little ones, Kings and Castles is another destination that can help you ensure a good night’s sleep.

The indoor play place offers loads for all ages (including a diamond heist laser maze during peak hours)

During the break they’ve got special programs Tuesday – Thursday, including Superhero costume making and Shamrock shaking.

In Play

If you want to balance physical activity with a bit of gameplay, In Play has plenty of both, with arcade style games and plenty of climbing options.

During the break, they’ve got themes for every day, including Masquerade Monday and Funky Friday (although you need to bring your own bellbottoms)

Treetops Playground

Besides the daily dose of fun at Treetops location, they’ll be on site at Georgian Mall in a kiosk with 8 different animal rides to choose from.

Creative Cafe

For those who are artistically inclined, Creative Cafe has a full pallet of paint infused fun through the week. Including Mug Monday, Splatter Thursday, and Frame it Friday! And the best part is you get to take all of your creations home.

Round out the day by roasting “spider dogs” and s’mores at the outdoor fire pit.

March Break at the Museum

The Simcoe County Museum is a terrific outing at any time of year, but during March Break they’ve got even more to see and do.

Daily themes include Mind Over Matter, St. Patrick’s Day and Mind Over Matter.

Barrie Public Library

Both branches of the BPL have an extensive agenda for the week, including scavenger hunts, crafts, movie marathons and Robotics workshops.

Georgian Mall March Break Madness

Closer to home, Georgian Mall has a five day program for the kiddos.

Events includes live magic shows and meet and greets from Paw Patrol characters, Peppa Pig and the Care Bears.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Public Skating – Both the downtown and Centennial rinks will be open (weather permitting) through the week, as well as the city rec centres. It’s almost certainly the last chance to carve fresh ice outdoors until next winter.

Trails – Nothing beats fresh air and a brisk jaunt through the forest. Hit up the Ardagh Bluffs, Lover’s Creek or Sunnidale for some sunny day fun. If you really want to make a day of it, pack a lunch and trek the whole Nine Mile Portage Heritage Trail. Use the #barrieuncovered hashtag on Insta if you do attempt the whole thing! We’d love to see some pics along the way.
