THE BEST OF BARRIE CONCERTS THIS WEEK
“Music Is The Wine That Fills The Cup of Silence” – Robert Fripp
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Happening this week on the stage in Barrie…
NMT remains the loudest acronym in town, and on Thursday it’s a trio of alternative bands maintaining the noise. Leading the way is a couple of Toronto area punk acts. Gunt, out of Ajax and The Discarded from the big O. We mean Orangeville! (Get your minds out of the gutter) Also on hand is Drft, on the tail end of a mini Ontario swing. They’ve been known to smuggle in their drummer in a crate on occasion…so maybe have a look in the back alley when you are at the gig.
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
Friday things really start to crank up, as a couple of Barrie favorites take over the stage. High Road Pilots are back at the Lounge, with a cool AF new logo and a slew of recent shows under their belt. Foxx regulars Sophie and the Gentles are the headliners, and just happen to have some killer new swag for the local fans. Rounding out the ticket is Toronto newcomers Little Boxer. Doors at 9pm and cash is good at the door!
EVEN MORE FOXX LOUNGE
The Noolands. The Mystics. You know these guys, right? Killer local bands with distinct sounds, and you can find both of them are on our Barrie Spotify Playlist.
Bet you haven’t heard much about Black Magic Flower Power. Which is understandable; they’re a U.S. band who tours almost entirely in the southern states. And on Saturday they bring their blend of funk and melodic rock to Barrie. These guys are a bit of a throwback in the sense that they don’t do a ton of self promotion (in a good way)…they let the music speak for it’s self.
