Downtown Barrie celebrates summer with Open Air Dunlop.
There's Excitement in the Air
Summer always arrives in Barrie with a sense of excitement. We love our lakeside city with its incredible waterfront beaches, festivals and entertainment.
This year is no exception with a huge assist from our local BIA. Each Saturday over the summer (with the addition of Fridays when there’s a long weekend) Dunlop Street is closed to any motorized vehicles. Without the traffic visitors can easily maneuver to visit our wide variety of niche shops, restaurants and patios.
You might find pop-ups supporting community organizations or maybe even vendors at times.

A Walk with Kelly
A couple of weeks ago a few of the staff here took a stroll through Open Air Dunlop with Kelly McKenna, Executive Director of the BIA. What an experience! Between the scads of people that were enjoying the freedom of movement along the street, the beauty of Meridian Square as a place of leisure to catch your breath and sharing Kelly’s love and excitement of Downtown Barrie we were thrilled to be there.
Amongst our group was photographer Stephen Elliott who created a short video of our walkabout. We were introduced to shop owners who agreed to be interviewed, patrons on patios that allowed photographs and even a pet that loved to pose.
We Invite You
Barrie Uncovered invites everyone to experience our downtown. Open Air Dunlop certainly showcases everything there is to offer – but it doesn’t stop there.
During weekdays, now that venues are further opened, entertainment can be found in a variety of restaurants and bars. The shops are so varied as well. Play your favorite arcade game at Last Level Lounge, choose a new outfit at ZuZu Fashion or Loved Again Bridal, or have your beard styled at Headquarters Hair Salon.
Find a new menu that excites you at one of the many restaurants, enjoy the breathtaking patio at Grillicious or just enjoy the stroll.
Don't Forget the Waterfront
Remember, when you’re on Dunlop Street you’re only a block up from the beach as well – make it a family affair with a walk through our beautiful downtown then head to the beach for the day. What could be better than that?
