YOUR WEEKLY GUIDE TO BARRIE’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE
“When Music Hits You, You Feel No Pain” ― Bob Marley
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Barrie Concerts This Week: Aug. 6th include…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
In the universe inhabited by live music fans, Thursday is akin to a Monday; when the “work” of going to weekly shows begins.
It’s a tough job…but SOMEBODY has to do it! This week’s day at the office kicks off with a band from the birthplace of Grunge. Seattle’s Cut Both Ways swing into town on tour with Underlier (London) Both bands pray at the church of hardcore, and Cut Both Ways is playing Barrie for the first time.
Joining them on the ticket are At Terminus and another London/Barrie crew, Being Beat Down. Both have released EPs in the past year, and Being Beat Down have to be the only deathcore band in history to actually play a wedding. (Wonder if they got any requests to cover Bruno Mars’ Marry You?)
Doors at 8pm
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
A few of Barrie’s fastest emerging bands make their way to the Lounge on Friday.
Cousin Jack continues their upward trajectory with a return visit to the Foxx stage. After playing Barrie’s New Year’s eve show with Sam Roberts and releasing their eponymous debut EP in March, the trio are making waves around the GTA.
Coming in to support them are Cudbear, also enjoying a big year. They’ve hit a few festivals in and around Barrie, opened for Ill Scarlett in June and scored some radio spins of their new tuneage.
Hymn Villa (formerly Tim Villa) who win this week’s totally made up award for most interesting merch, and Toronto’s Sweet Tooth round out the ticket.
Knight Rider. Knee high socks. Mettalica. Bonkers candies.
If even one of these means something to you, you grew up in the 80s. Or you are crushing hard on the whole decade after binge watching Stranger Things.
In either case, Saturday night at the Foxx is your jam! The Lounge is hosting ’80s Mania; a costume party to end all 80s costume parties. And if someone doesn’t show up as Optimus Prime we’re going to be sorely disappointed.
Of course… there will be music. Featuring performances by The Cobra Kais, A Couple Anancies and members of The Rip Nancies. The Cobra Kais are a super band featuring members of Kansas Stone, Indian Handcrafts, Postwave Sound, Lame and Early Elton.
Prizes for best costumes!! If you are attending, take lots of pictures. And use the #barrieuncovered hashtag so we can feature the more imaginative dress ups in our weekly recap! (Like, say…Optimus Prime? Hint, hint)
