9 Things To Do in Barrie This March

March may be coming in like a lion, but it brings with it a ton of cool and fun events. Celebrate the last few weeks of winter in and around Barrie by checking out one or two of these happenings!

Reel Stories – Barrie Film Festival

The 18th annual Reel Stories festival happens at Galaxy Cinemas from the 24th to the 27th.

Discover extraordinary things about the world from this thought-provoking film festival which includes documentaries and dramas inspired by true events and real people.

Hit up the BFF website for more.

    St. Paddy’s Day

The celebration of all things Irish bursts onto Barrie on the 17th, and there is no shortage of green drinks and Leprechaun hats to be had.

All of the usual suspects will be hosting Celtic themed fun, and in particular, the Queens is offering drink specials, prizes and live music.

Bonus! Check out Cinema Smackdown’s St Patrick’s day inspired thrashing of the Leprechaun movies.

    Live Music

Okay, we’ll admit we go slightly overboard when it comes to gigs. But it’s been such a tough slog the last two years for the performing arts, that the return of live music has us backflipping in joy (metaphorically).

Perfect SZN, The Queens, Flying Monkey’s, Malone’s Pint House and the British Arms are just a few of the venues across town offering in person tunes this month.

And you can check our weekly blog for more shows around town.

    Go To a Retro Arcade

Feeling nostalgic for the days of Street Fighter and SNES? Last Level Lounge has got you covered.

If you haven’t had checked out the arcade/museum/pub on Dunlop street yet, you need to make it a go-to this month.

Featuring a ton of classic games and vintage artifacts, it’s a fab night out to celebrate your glory days.

    Hit A Colts Game

With capacity limits lifting and a push for the playoffs on the docket, the Colts will be a hot ticket this month.

With a bunch of home games coming up, you can get your hockey fix in before the month is out.

    Road Trippin’

Barrie’s central location makes us a prime hub to launch car voyages through the warm weather months.

If you are eager to hit the road for a weekend adventure before the summer arrives, here are a few picks to get the GPS juices flowing.

    Thousand Islands Skydeck

Housed in Lansdowne, a rural community in the 1000 Islands region, this rustic town is home to one of the highest lookout towers in Ontario. The lookout stands more than 100 metres above sea level.

      Merrickville

Located east of Toronto, Merrickville is a village along the Rideau Canal. The Rideau Canal is a chain of beautiful lakes, rivers and canals winding 202 km from Ottawa all the way to the head of Lake Ontario in Kingston.

And check out our weekly feature for more cool road trips!

    Skate, Ski and Snowshoe

It won’t be long before the warmer temps melt the arctic landscape, so the next few weeks are vital for the winter enthusiast.

Grab your blades and hit up one of the local rinks or cool skate trails around Barrie. There’s also a host of trails to traverse if you are a snowshoer.

If you are more inclined to be on an incline, book some time tubing and skiing at Ski Snow Valley, Horseshoe or Blue Mountain.

Sink a Putt In The Dark

Need an indoor option to avoid the last gusts of winter? Try a round or two of glow in the dark mini golf.

Located in the south end, Putt Mini Golf is a terrific destination for you and the clan when the temps don’t co-operate. Ideal to secure bragging rights, or for a birthday party.

    Comedy

Two of Canada’s most infamous comics head to the Rec Room in Barrie at the end of the month.

Kenny and Spenny appear on stage in a hilarious, high octane, offensive cringe-filled car crash with Spenny going through the windshield yet again.

Tickets are available through the Rec Room’s website!
