8 Things To Do This Spring in Barrie

    Don’t ease into Spring.

    Dive In!

It’s time to push out of hiding from the cold on the couch mode, and into a new stratosphere of experiences.

Fortunately, Barrie and the surrounding areas are awash in cool happenings through the season to aid in your warm-weather adventure-seeking.

Scroll on for a list of ideas to make your Spring a memorable one!

    Patios, Patios, Patios

Drinking and the outdoors go together like…drinking and the outdoors. Get yourself to a patio as soon as they are open, and soak up the rays while the cold drinks flow.

Downtown, you’ve got the stalwarts; The Queens, Donaleigh’s, Kenzington, McReily’s. And to the south you’ve got newer additions like Steyn House and Jack Astor’s.

Bonus idea! Set aside a weekend for a craft beer patio crawl, and try a Barrie-based beer at each of the local brewers.

    Take A Hike

Not literally. Actually, yes literally in the sense of hiking outdoors as opposed to the insult.

The green views and the temperatures are the perfect combo to take advantage of the plethora of wooded walks in and around Barrie. If hiking isn’t your thing, picnics or reading in the parks will fill your outdoor recharge quota.

    Go Retro

An actual trip back in time isn’t possible at the moment (Doc Brown, you had ONE JOB) but you can at least pretend to exist in a past decade at Last Level Lounge.

The arcade and museum on Dunlop is packed with artifacts and games from yesteryear, and offers unlimited free play on the likes of Tetris and Arkanoid for just $5.

Be sure to explore the vibrant cocktail menu when you are there. Their list of game themed bevys is second to none.

    Up Your IQ

“Education is the passport to the future” said… someone much brighter than us. But you can put yourself on the path to recognizing or even authoring profound quotes like that via the many adult education options in Barrie.

Georgian College has a number of evening and continuing education classes, including online learning.

There’s also College Boreal, which provides full courses in French and Spanish as a second language.

    Hit The Waterfront Festival

The annual takeover of the waterfront returns this May, as Centennial Park transforms into a festival grounds complete with live bands, food trucks, a beer garden, and a midway.

Admission is free, and there are loads of made in Barrie vendors on site.

    Live Music

Concerts, gigs, music festivals are all back, and not soon enough!

You can hit up shows every weekend at the 400 Market through the Indie Distributor series, featuring artists from the Barrie scene and out of towners.

The Queens brings in bands from across the country every month, with performances midweek.

If low key tunes while you enjoy a meal are more your speed, Perfect Szn has acoustic performers on Tuesdays and Fridays.

    Go To a Baycats Game

The seven-time IBL champs are back on the field on May 19th.

A game at the ballpark is a fantastic day out for the famjam, with walk up tickets available, as well as online packages.

As an added bonus this year, the ‘Cats have a digital stream of every home game. Hit up their website for more.

Geek It Up At Barrie ComicCon

Odds are there is at least one or two friends/family you know of the nerd persuasion.

Sunday April 10th is their chance to shine.

Barrie Comic Con returns to East Bayfield community centre, where a variety of vendors will be selling comic books, new & vintage toys, jewelry, DVD’s, anime, manga, prints, and a variety of other awesome geek stuff.
