VIRTUAL AND IRL EVENTS TO ENJOY IN SUMMER’S FIRST MONTH

As the pandemic restrictions ease up (slightly) and the long days approach, there are plenty of events, both virtual and in real life that we can look to for a gentle distraction.

Read on for 8 of the best!

HIT THE DRIVE IN

Ontario has given the go ahead for Drive In movie theatres to reopen. And summer flick veterans know well that Barrie has one of the best in the province at the Sunset Drive In. It’s welcome news for cinephiles and parents desperate to get the kids off the couch.

TRIVIA AND FIFA

Innisfill Library is hosting a Harry Potter themed quiz night tomorrow; it’s free to join for all ages. But you do require a way to both view questions and submit answers (e.g. two screens or a split-screen). Register here.

The GSCA is also hosting a trivia night, and a online Fifa tourny. Open to all current students and alums.

Day Camping/Hiking

Although there’s no overnight camping, sites can open for day visits and fires, while provincial parks are open for walks and hikes. And of course there’s all the great in town hike options like the Ardagh Bluffs.

Virtual Beer Tasting

We can’t gather for pints, but we can virtually get together to sample some suds. Redline hosts an online 4 course beer and tapas dinner, with guest hosts to educate and inform on the ins and outs of craft beer.

A portion of each ticket will go directly to Barrie SPCA. Happening June 20th.

Join Redline Brewhouse in supporting our Barrie SPCA @barrie.ospca in a virtual Beer Tasting/ Pairing hosted via Zoom by Four Elements podcast @4elements_craftbeer_podcast on June 20th at 7pm. Four Elements will guide you through a 4 course beer and tapas dinner and educate you on the ins and outs of craft beer! A portion of each ticket will go directly to Barrie SPCA to support our furry friends during these hard times. The staff at the Barrie SPCA have been working extremely hard to come up with a virtual project that is both fun and educational. We are super excited they have come to us with this project as we absolutely love animals and love this project! Pick up for this event will take place from 3:00pm-6:30pm at Redline Brewhouse where you can stop in, grab your beers and tapas to enjoy at home. You will be emailed the zoom link before the event once tickets are purcahsed so please provide your email at checkout! Gangsters and Cocktails

Speaking of virtual drinking, J’adore hosts an online chat about the prohibition and Chicago’s most notorious gangsters of the 1920’s, while partaking of vintage cocktails enjoyed by the infamous Al Capone.

All you have to do is pick up a tasting box at J’adore in advance and join the online party via Zoom.

Virtual Cinema and Theatre Chats

The Barrie Film Festival continues their terrific series of virtual first run, indy movies through June. You can rent the movies directly from the BFF website for up to five days, and it’s a great way to support the festival and distributors across Canada.

If conversation is more up your alley, Talk Is Free Theatre hosts weekly chats with industry folks and thespians.
