As hard as it is to believe, it’s already mid-October. Before you know it the snow will be flying, a walk to the store with the kids will require hours of gearing up, and we’ll be cursing the fact we don’t live in Tahiti.
But we’re not there yet! So get out in the vibrant fall colours and enjoy the fact that we can still take a stroll sans snow pants.
Here’s a trio of ideas to liven up your weekend.
3 Things to Check Out This Weekend
Coding for Kids @ Code Ninjas
If you have any advanced level gamers in the house, you might consider taking them to Code Ninjas. It’s a coding center for kids ages 7-14, where they can build video games and learn to code. Offering both drop in learning, and ongoing programs, this weekend they are hosting a virtual event. Hit up the links here to enroll online.
Happening on Saturday at the Drawing House, this is a chance for the kids to learn the trade secrets of cartoonists and comic writers! Each participant will learn how to construct characters. If your child likes to draw cartoons, or just have fun drawing, this might be the course for them.
The countdown to Halloween is on (even if there won’t be any trick or treating) so you’re duty bound to grab some pumpkins to spruce up the front porch. Luckily, Barrie has loads of local options to pick your own.
Round’s Ranch is full of activities to keep the kids engaged before and after selecting your Jack O’Lantern, including ziplines, giant jumping pillows, corn cannons, and a multitude of mazes.
There’s also Chappel Farms (with mazes and animal feeding) Drysdale’s (train rides and face painting) and Barrie Hill Farms, all within a 30 minute drive. And don’t forget about the Farmer’s Market, with a great selection of pumpkin related food fare from all of the local farms.
