The festive season has arrived, and the final month of 2019 (and of the decade!) is jammed with holiday mirth.

There’s no better excuse to retreat into the cinema than cold weather! Georgian Theatre and Five Points Theaters are offering holiday classics through the month, including Die Hard on Saturday Dec. 21st.

The Barrie Film Festival is also showing flicks this month, through their Screen One and Third Thursday program.

The MacLaren Art centre kicks off their winter season of exhibitions. The opening reception happens Thursday, December 5, with walkthroughs with several of the exhibiting artists.

This season of exhibitions presents an exciting roster of artists shedding light on the landscape, great literature and narratives of place.

Northern Convergences brings together artists Felix Kalmenson, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Jeneen Frei Njootli, Charles Stankievech whose works respond to the MacLaren’s Sovfoto Archive, a collection of 23,116 vintage press prints from the Stalinist period in the USSR. Complementing Northern Convergences, (In)tangible Archives is a screening of three films by artist collective Isuma that investigate archives as both physical and oral repositories, contrasting Inuit histories and reflections on colonial exile, shamanism and museum collections.
