As we hurtle to the holidays, things to do around town become distinctly more festive. We’ve already got a great selection of drive through and walk through events, happening around Barrie. But this weekend there’s also some fun non Xmas related occurrences. Of course, we are always on the lookout for cool, local events, and if you are involved in one, let us know! We can post it to our events calendar.
Weekend Happenings: 3 Things To Try
Cornhole Tournament @ The Kage
Barrie Cornhole League has put together a two day event this Saturday and Sunday. Specifically, this is a special event to recognize men’s health through the Movember fundraiser.
The event includes competitive doubles, a blind draw, mixed doubles, recreational doubles and a live DJ
It’s a pre- registration event, and you can sign up here. Be sure to also check out the Kage’s baseball training facilities when you’re there!
BCC PAINT NIGHT
The Barrie Curling Club isn’t just for curling…at least this weekend. On Saturday night the club converts into an art gallery. It’s called Winter Work of Art, and anyone wanting to take part, can have their portraits included. Tickets are $40 each, and includes all supplies. The painting gets started at 7pm.
Keep in mind that the curling club is open during Covid, for rentals and league play. And their kitchen serves food for dine and takeout.
Hit the Farmer’s Market
Finally, make it a mission as we head closer to the holidays to incorporate some local into your shopping lists. The long winter is coming, and many of our smaller backyard businesses are going to be hit hard by restrictions and lockdowns.
You can start with a trip to the Barrie Farmer’s market, happening at City Hall on Saturday mornings. With over a dozen providers, you can help support local vendors and artisans and find some of the freshest produce and food in the region. Keep in mind they offer pre-ordering and pickup if you prefer!
