Online BPL Comic Con

Get your superhero costume ready!

The Barrie public library Comic Con is taking place Saturday, September 19th at 10am.

It’s a virtual event this year, but still packed with interactive fun. Make your own comic books, dragon eggs and magic wands with an instructor led session. There’s also a Cosplay Panel Discussion, and amazing art to be purchases through the vibrant community of makers. You can browse the virtual market by looking through our list of vendors on the BPL website.

2021 Boat Model Preview & In Water Boat Show @ Friday Harbour

Get a head start on next season’s marine adventures. Happening on Saturday at the HARBOUR MASTER BUILDING (South side) the boat show includes over 25 NEW boats in water & on display: including Wake boats, pontoon boats, sport boats, bowriders, cruisers and more. Be sure to take a wander along the boardwalk for great eats and shopping before you leave.

Triple Showdown DH Race @ Horseshoe Resort

The Horseshoe Triple Showdown is a mountain bike extravaganza, consisting of a variety of downhill events over three days. If you fancy your chances, sign up for one, two or all three events! An overall Triple Showdown winner will be crowned for those that race all 3 events! Throughout the weekend explore the vendor village, enjoy live music and hit the resort for some choice cuisine. THE LONG WEEKEND BRINGS PLENTY OF FUN

Hard to believe we are actually about to welcome August. Although given the way 2020 has developed, maybe we should be happy to see it coming to a close.

On the positive side, reopenings around the province continue! And that, along with some good weather makes for plenty of fun this Civic long weekend.

KEMPENFEST

Although the full on festival is on hold until 2021, it’s still the 50th anniversary of Kempenfest this year. And to celebrate, the annual festival is turning over their social media channels to boatloads of local artists, artisans and performers.  Take a half an hour this weekend to check it out!

HIT THE MACLAREN

The MacLaren is back, with social distancing in effect. And just in time for summer themed exhibits and new art pieces. Check their website for more!

TACO TUESDAY (ON A WEEKEND) AT THE ALLEY

Although night clubs haven’t been cleared to reopen yet, the night life experience is coming back this weekend from one of Barrie’s best clubs.

The Alley morphs into Taco Alley on Friday night. The clus is taking over a downtown parking lot to serve shots and food through the long weekend, with service until 2am!

Snowshoe Under Moonlight

There’s only a few weeks left to take in a 2km guided moonlight snowshoe through the forest at Horseshoe.

The resort offers these winter walks through March as long as weather permits, so this could be one of the last weekends. Afterwards, warm up by the fire while you roast marshmallows and sip on some hot chocolate.

 

See The Colts

With only 3 home games left in the regular season, this Saturday is the second last weekend game at the BMC. There’s always a ton of fun in game, with giveaways and draws. And it’s the perfect excuse to have pizza and hot dogs for dinner.

 

Throw Some Axes

Ya know what goes together like Post Malone and strippers? Axe Throwing and Booze! We can’t do much about hooking you up with the former, but the latter is available right here in Barrie.

Bullseye Axe Throwing is on King street and offers you and a group the chance to throw the Eff out of Axes in a fun environment. They’ve got coaches on site to help make sure you hit the mark and not accidentally hit the wall…or your date.

 

Group Sing-Along @ City Hall

Caswell Community Choirs takes over the rotunda on Saturday to jam in as many singers as legally possible for a rendition of Here Comes The Sun.

Designed to kick the crap out of the last days of winter, it’s totally free to attend.

Battle of the Bands

The Ranch plays host to one of Barrie’s most celebrated music events of the year on Friday.

Battle of the Bands returns for an electric evening of live music, cowboy hats and fundraising. Proceeds from the night (which last year included the Mayor going full Young MC) support KICX 106 & 104.1 The DOCK‘s Radio for Cardiology, Kempenfelt Rotary Club and the MacLaren Art Centre.

This year’s lineup features The Bailouts, Bunker, Code Blue, Sonic Coalition, Steve’s Garage and Table Nine.

Doors at 7 pm.

 

Reel Stories

The Barrie Film Festival’s Reel Stories festival returns to the Uptown theatre today, running through Sunday

The 4 day film event aims to discover extraordinary things about the world through documentaries and dramas inspired by true events and real people.

Reel Stories will screen 10 films over four days at Uptown Theatre.

 

Clothing Swap

Swap out that hoodie you’ve had since Paul Martin was Prime Minister and help keep textiles from going to the landfill! Living Green Barrie hosts this event in partnership with SwapaholicsCanada and Spool Lounge

Join the clothing swap on Saturday, February 22nd from @10:30- 11:30 am at the Painswick branch of the library.

Cost for everyone: Up to 10 items of clothing (adult sizes only, must be clean and in good condition.

 

Ladies Night at Alt. Rock

Grab the gal crew and scale the (indoor) heights of Mount Alt. Rock. Friday night they are offering facility passes for just $10.

First Responders Snow Tubing Night

In celebration of all first responders, Snow Valley hosts a fun night of snowtubing on Sunday February 23rd from 6pm-9pm!

Bring your 911 responder badge or id card, you and your family can tube from 6pm-9pm for just $10. Extended to all emergency workers and their immediate families.
