PA Day Camp Roundup

Things To Do This Summer in Barrie

Long treasured by students…but not so much by parents, a PA Day arrives for the Simcoe County schools this week.

It can be a challenge for some families, as booking an extra day of care or finding something fun to do while the young ones stay home can prove…draining.

We’ve got the down and dirty on a few places/events/activities to make the PA day go swimmingly!

Both branches of the library have a lot going on.

The downtown location has activities through the day, including Birdhouse Building at 11am. Painswick offers an afternoon showing of Toy Story 4 at 2pm.

There’s also a morning story time for the toddlers, and  the Tinker lab (downtown) where older kiddos can create 3d printed goodies.

Smart Moves will be open all day, as will Funvilla. Both spots offer tons hands on, leaping and running activities for infants right up to tweens.

Kaleidoscoppe will be OPEN 9am-6pm for Drop in Play. They’ll also be doing a special Science Show and a LEGO Building Contest.

If you need something a bit more robust, Jack’s Urban Jungle is open all day with dodge ball and ground floor activites from 10-4pm.

Alt Rock is also open for the day and offering camps. The day includes climbing, movement, crafts, obstacle course training for youth 6-14. Pre-registration is required though. So hit up their website to save a spot.

The creatives in your clan will find plenty to stimulate the synapses at the Simcoe County Museum and the MacLaren Art Centre.

The Museum is hosting a full winter wonderland day, including snowshoeing, discovery, and sculptures, plus indoor activities. Hit their website to register.

Over at the Art Gallery, regional artist Janine Wheeler leads participants to find inspiration by the vibrant landscape paintings in the exhibition Bewabon Shilling: Between the Forest and the Sky. Youth will create a series of expressive acrylic paintings inspired by the colours, shapes, patterns and textures seen in the regional landscape.
