TGIF: Triple Teamed

TGIF: Triple Teamed

Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.

And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.

With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.

This week why don’t your try…

Pancho Barnes Triple Stout Chocolate: Barnstormer’s

The appearance pours a jet black, with sizeable fingers of creamy lace orbiting the glass.

That gives way to a pleasant first sniff – mainly grainy roasty malts, cocoa, coffee bean, earthy and leafy hops, dark fruits (fig as the strongest) and earthy yeast.

As you enjoy the taste, those grainy roasty malts and coffee bean come to the forefront. The earthy and leafy hops are meshed with the cocoa hints, and they come through strongly. Followed by the dark fruits, the earthy yeast rounds out the brew.

The mouthfeel is best described as medium to full bodied, with moderate carbonation. Moreover, it finishes creamy with all elements lingering.

Overall – This is a flavourful sweet stout that delivers on all fronts. In general it is velvety smooth, and bold. Well deserving of a session from those that haven’t sampled it yet.

Best paired with traditional pub fare favoring sharper, salty sides to balance the sweeter sections of the drink.

By the numbers:

  • ABV : 5.9
  • IBU (THEORETICAL) : 21
  • 36 SRM

Find out more about Pancho Barnes on Barnstormer’s website, and get it at the LCBO.

McReily’s Lager Is a Smooth, Homepub Beverage Experience

MCREILY’S LAGER

TGIF

Although several of Barrie’s pubs offer locally brewed beers, McReily’s on Dunlop street is one of a few non-brewery locations that create their own lager.

In aroma, it’s of course slightly hoppy, with a just a hint of citrus.

In taste this is a drink that is balanced but not too sweet. The bitterness is soft and doesn’t overpower the overall experience.

Vibrant levels of carbonation might be a bit much for some, but for our money the fizz is hitting just the right tastebuds.

And the presentation heightens the pub experience in terms of authenticity; a warm golden tint with a slim head of foam. Best paired with a salty side of the menu item (of which McReily’s has several) it’s a pint that you can stick with all night.

And to add the experience, McReilly’s has loads of live music on weekends! You can always hit up our live music guide to see who is guarding the mic on any given night.
