Barrie Uncovered

ZuZu Fashion Boutique-For the Fashion Forward Woman

My eye catches the bright purple awning of ZuZu Fashion Boutique as I stroll downtown Barrie.  Being in Shutdown makes me sad!  I’m not able to visit this luxurious yet fun shop to browse what’s new…and there’s always something new at ZuZu

Tracey Baker, owner and “Fashioneer Extraordinaire” brings wonderful choices of high quality fashion to Barrie.  I love to browse through everything from casual wear to “gala appropriate” special occasion wear.  What makes it so much nicer, is that I find styles just not available in the malls.

Tracey and her staff have made it their mission to create such a fun and supportive environment.  The feel of the shop is understated luxury with flair!  They are truly the curators of high quality, unique, jewellery and amazing accessories in Barrie!

The mission statement of the shop makes me feel so welcome and understood.

The ZuZu Mission

“Our Mission is to inspire and support women in the expression of their own personal style”

“Our vision is that women everywhere will see their own beauty”

Something that I love is when I’m remembered by the staff in our boutique stores.  I feel very assured that they’ll guide me to the pieces that suit me best.

Tracey and her staff are no exception!  They know their merchandise so well.  Without hesitation they’re able to accessorize each outfit if I wish.

Going into ZuZu makes me feel that I have a personal shopper working just for me.  They understand what style I like best, yet enjoy showing me fashions that I may not have thought of for myself.  I trust their judgment and often end up surprised with how each piece makes me feel.

That is something I think we all miss dearly during “Shutdown”.  In talking to Tracey today, she wanted to be sure that everyone knows how much she appreciates the incredible support that she’s had from her patrons.  “They’ve hung in!”

“Many clients have purchased BIA Gift Certificates; others have taken part in her Face book “Live” events, and/or virtual personal shopping experiences.  And with curbside pick-up or free local delivery, customers feel safe!

Being that ZuZu is built on very dedicated one-on-one relationships; Tracey hopes that this “Shutdown” ends soon.  She sends her best to everyone, asks that you follow her on Facebook and Instagram for day to day news…and continue to   “Shop Local”.

Grillicious Gourmet Tap & Grill – “We’re here for You!”

For the past three years many of us have enjoyed the wonderful ‘made from scratch’ menu and openly inviting atmosphere of Grillicious Gourmet Tap & Grill at 3 Mulcaster Street.  We’re sure missing that now!

Josie Fabreo, owner, wants you to know that she struggles daily not being able to share space with her ‘regulars’.

Josie and her staff are hard at work behind the scenes.  Grillicious is still offering their full, upscale menu for curbside pickup and…they deliver!

Menu Options for your Health!

Happily using locally sourced products, Grillicious offers a wide array of Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free and regular menu options.  Is very important to Josie to let patrons know; “Eating healthy helps boost our immune system.”  It’s for that reason she’s so particular with every dish.

Having to do some things differently during COVID, Josie and her staff have come up with new offerings for everyone.

Check out the Specials!

Each Tuesday Grillicious posts weekly specials on both their Face Book and Instagram.  The prices are very affordable for the upscale selections offered.  Josie adds that it’s wise to check daily for the “special of the day” as well.

Meal Packages can be purchased to provide affordable, healthy meals for the entire family.  Make sure to preorder and they’ll deliver!

Grillicious is also providing basic grocery store needs for those of us that try to stay out of the large box stores.  Call ahead with your list and curbside pickup will be made available.

Don't forget the Drinks!

Along with those great ideas we are reminded that also available for pickup or delivery is an extensive choice from the Grillicious Wine and Beer menu.  Check out their website for a complete list.

We’ll all be so relieved when ‘shutdown’ comes to an end and we can once again enjoy the music and shows that Grillicious is so known for!

From one coast to another there are a lot of “foodies” in Canada.  We have such cultural ethnicity.  The other thing that we have is an extremely diverse landscape with each Province and Territory offering up their own uniqueness.  On top of that we have our local areas which have many different menus to tantalize us even further.

Starting on the East Coast we can try everything from a Jigg’s Dinner, Lobster Rolls to Screech Rum.  As we head into Quebec we all seem pretty familiar with Poutine, maple syrup and tortierre.

It’s in Ontario where things become a little different.  Here we are certainly known for our outstanding wineries and craft breweries, but our favorite foods are as diverse as the population!  We have our seasonal treats like corn on the cob or garden fresh toasted tomato sandwiches, however as food goes – I think our diversity shines in our “street eats”.

If  you were to Google the favorite food in Toronto you’d likely find it’s a veal sandwich, Ottawa – Beaver Tails, Barrie – Skewers, a Korean BBQ restaurant and so on.  We have different flavors on every corner it seems.

As we head into Manitoba it becomes very particular again.  There you’d find mouth watering pickerel most often pan-fried with a bit of butter.  Saskatoon actually got it’s name from the all-important Saskatoon berry either made into a pie or jam.  Alberta is beef, beef, and more beef, with Vancouver being salmon and of course Nanaimo bars.  In Nunavut we find the somewhat strange Muktuk (fried whale) or, surprisingly…Shwarma!  Finally in the northwest Territories we are told Artic Char and game meats such as caribou and muscox are the favorites.

Travelling through Canada is divine for “foodies”.  We have so many very unique tastes to savor.  Again though, I have to say how nice it is to be in Central Ontario – Barrie to be exact.  I love our diverse menu offerings.  There are so many exciting flavors!  One of the “favs” for sure is the Korean Street Food found at Skewers, just up from Downtown at 9 Clapperton Street.  Don’t take my word for it though – go ahead – try it for yourself!
