In our first Uncover The Music for 2021, we chatted with Core and Casey, the founders of Tarantula Tapes.
As we close out 2020, it’s time to look back on the killer lineup of new music we received this past year from Barrie’s talented music scene.
It was a tough year for musicians everywhere, and here in Barrie we felt the pain in the local scene. With the closing of the Foxx Lounge, and venues unable to offer live music for so many months, it was a challenging time. But, despite it all, we got a TON of kick ass tuneage from the stalwarts, plus invigorating fresh cuts from new and emerging acts.
We’ll continue to encourage that growth in 2021 by covering and promoting the 705 music scene through playlist curation like this, as well as through podcasts, weekly concert blogs, and local music news. If you’re part of the Barrie music scene, and you are performing or producing original music, we want to know! Send us stuff about new releases, performance dates and video releases and we’ll be sure to talk it up. Either through FB or email to [email protected]
And please have a look and tell us about any 2020 drops that we missed!
*We looked at doing this through Bandcamp, because so many more artists have their stuff up there. But unfortunately they don’t offer playlist options, so Spotify is the best shareable option.
It’s not really Halloween until you’ve ended up at an apartment party with at least one nurse and/or Heath Ledger’s Joker, and someone drunkenly yelling at the DJ to play Ghostbusters. Unfortunately, this year none of that is happening. (Another opportunity to give the finger to Covid)
But still. You can put together a bash with a killer playlist for your close bubble and roommates. There are so many options for the scariest night of the year. Eerie options. More horrifying tunes.
With that in mind, we canvassed some of Barrie’s local musicians and the gang here at Barrie Uncovered to compile the Ultimate Halloween Jam List.
It’s an eclectic list of traditional and unexpected Halloween fare. Creepy, eerie and mysterious tracks to liven up the night. Check out everyone’s Top picks and then scroll down to access the playlist!

You can also hit up the Common Good Cafe for Sunday morning jams. And if karaoke is more your speed, hit up Steyn House on Mapleton in the south end on Friday night.
