Barrie Live Music & Bring Your Eh Game Raise Funds For…

Jake Mathias, creator of Barrie’s Live Music Show and brother Jorden have raised over $100,000.00 for local charities with March 28th marking their 1st year anniversary.

What a Great Platform!

Providing a wonderful platform for musicians to share their passionate talent virtually, we have been able to stay connected to our favorite local artists!

Teaming Up With:

Coming full circle this past year, they have teamed up with Dawn Mucci of Canada’s Top Mayor Award and Food Bank Canada for the entire month of April!

Canada’s Top Mayor Award, founded by Dawn has been a wonderful supporter of the Canada Food Bank Covid-19 Food Relief initiative through the Bring your ‘Eh Game series!

With many very exciting special guests joining Barrie Live Music this month it’s a great show and a great cause to support!

Sponsored By:

Sponsored throughout by Rock 95 and many more –  Barrie Uncovered has also stepped up on behalf of the cause.

Just under $2000.00 from the beginning of April – they are well on the way to a record month of donations!

And Special Thanks To...

Jumping in with a huge assist is Danny Mucci of Mucci Farms, Kingsville, Ontario, with a truckload donation of fresh produce to our local Barrie Food Bank.

Danny tells us, “At Mucci Farms, giving back to the community is a high priority.  After the year we’ve all had, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness and place an emphasis on building immune systems by increasing consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.  We also realize that healthy eating options aren’t necessarily available to everyone so we are proud to support a variety of initiatives and organizations to make it possible.”

Helping So Many...

Sharon Palmer, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Barrie Food Bank, is thrilled at the support of the local community.

“More and more families in our city are relying on the Food Bank to cover dietary needs and supplement their groceries since the beginning of Covid.”

We couldn’t be happier at the platform created for the artists we so have so dearly missed this past year!

It was so much fun getting everyone together via Zoom to discuss what we could do and introduce everyone!  Watch the video for that discussion!

The Weekender: 3 Things To Do

And just like that, we switch from +25 patio weather, to blowing snow and icy streets. (#BarrieInNovember)

But, regardless of the inevitable approach of winter, there are plenty of fun things to do and experience as we ramp up to Xmas and the holidays.

Read on for a few ideas to energize your weekend! And if you have an event or happening in Barrie you want to promote, let us know and we can post it to our events calendar!

The Weekender: 3 Things To Do

Take a Holiday Road Trip

There are quite a few holiday inspired drive through and walk through happenings around the region, including a few starting this weekend.

Blue Mountain kicked off Enchanted Forest this week; the entire Village will be decked out in garlands and bows. Ideal for a family trip full of festive sights and sounds.

Aside from the festive décor, there will be fire pits to warm by, holiday music and carolers and horse drawn carriage with Santa every Saturday. At night, you can take the one kilometer pedestrian pathways through the Village and around the Mill Pond to discover interactive Christmas light displays.

There’s also the Bluffs Winter Wonderland in Scarborough, and Holiday Light show in Vaughan. Hit up our Winter Wonderland Road Trip blog for more on each!

Free Santa Photos | The 400 Market

Santa will be back at The 400 Market starting this Saturday, and every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm until Sunday, December 20th, 2020! 🎅

Santa will be a bit different this year to ensure COVID-19 safety measures for Santa and visitors. Instead of the regular Santa costume (open-faced), the Market will have a professionally designed, fully-masked costumed Santa.

The Santa photos are “Free” so please bring your own cameras and or phone cell phones. There are no costs and/or donations required.

And while you’re there, why not get a start on your holiday shopping?

Live Music

As always, there is plenty of tunes to be heard, if you know where to go. Musicians and restaurants have been among the hardest hit vocations in this pandemic, so if you can get out to support both while being safe, you should!

Playing this week; John Anderson at Flying Monkey’s, Big Furry Tractor at the Queen’s and Bill Nadeu at Malone’s Pint House. You can also hit up North Country BBQ for live music Thursday – Saturday from Owen Riegling, The Beresford’s and Rob Watts.

Keep in mind that we always want to hear from you about how we are doing! Reach out anytime to [email protected] with your feedback or story submissions.

4 Reasons To Be Thankful In Barrie Right Now

5 Reasons To Be Thankful In Barrie Right Now

GIVE THANKS THIS WEEKEND FOR THESE 4 THINGS IN BARRIE

Barrie has a bit of a reputation as a city that likes to complain (occasionally)

And yet, when you take stock of all the good things out there that are often overlooked or taken for granted, it paints a vibrant picture. Despite the pandemic.

In honour of Thanksgiving, dive into our meandering list of things to give thanks for in Barrie right now.

4 Reasons To Be Thankful In Barrie Right Now

SELF CARE

Now, having said all of that, we might might need some maintenance on their nerves by the end of the year.

Luckily Barrie is packed with a growing number of options for self care and general health improvement.

Keep in mind that of course, there are plenty of restrictions due to Covid in place. So be sure to check the requirements before heading out.

If it’s the body you’d like to work on, hit up Jeevanaya Wellness or one of the many other yoga spots across the city. Or a gym.

And if the diet is dogging you, visit a few of the healthy eating restaurants in town. And don’t forget about Nutrition Plus downtown for organic bulk foods, herbs and spices, free range and organic meats, and gluten free foods.

THE WATERFRONT

It’s a no-brainer. And we tend to overlook what’s in our own backyard.

Yet we are fortunate to live in a city with a waterfront that produces daily breathtaking views and walking spaces. And at this time of the year, the fall colours just make it all the more inviting.

BACKYARD NATURE

And speaking of our own backyards, the Ardagh Bluffs, Sunnidale Park, Heritage trail and Wilkin’s Walk are just a few options to get the most out of in-town nature.

There simply are not many cities in Canada that can make similar claims. Get out there and revel in it.

LIVE MUSIC

C’mon, you KNOW we are going to use every opportunity to brag up the local music scene.

Barrie is fortunate to have a terrific assortment of venues that offer live music throughout the week including Flying Monkey’s, Common Good cafe, Donaleigh’s and North Country.

What do you think of our 4 Reasons To Be Thankful In Barrie Right Now? Did we miss anything you are thankful for? Send us an email or a msg to our FB page to let us know!
