YOUR WEEKLY GUIDE TO BARRIE’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE
“If I cannot fly, let me sing.” ― Stephen Sondheim
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Barrie Concerts This Week: Aug. 13th include…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
Thursday brings a trio of metal to the Lounge, led by Orillia’s Esoteric Doctrine. The trio have been thrashing since 2017 and released an EP called Death Oven earlier this year. Flanked by Relapse and Barrie’s A Particle Apart, who have been gigging around the circuit all year while getting spins of their prog infused tuneage on Spotify and the streamers.
Particle are back at Lounge after a great WHIMIS inspired gig in June…and could be coaxed to cover some Limp Bizkit to close out their set. JUST SAYIN’

FRIDAY – The weekend kicks off with a first timer to Barrie in the form of Ska/punkers Keep Flying. The NY area group came together in 2016 after Survay Says fell apart and have been gaining a rep for terrific live shows ever since. If you grew up on the likes of Ill Scarlett or other Ska preachers like Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto, these guys are definitely in your wheelhouse.
Joining them is Nova Scotia’s Hello Delaware, making their way through Barrie on a Ontario tour. They’ve been cleaning up on the East Coast awards scene since their debut in 2015 and just scored a song on the soundtrack of City Tv’s Hudson & Rex. Fans of folk/alt/rock/maritime sounds will lap these guys up.
Rounding out the ticket is Barrie’s Advancing Low Lives. It’s been a good summer for the quartet, with gigs in Toronto and a chance to open for Ill Scarlett. And guitarist Derek Nelson got to hang with the likes of Jack Black at the Sweden Rock Festival in June. Maybe he can get Jack to jam on stage once?

Guys. Gals. This is big. August is gonna be a doozy. We start off supporting some great friends like @shakeoutny & @killtheclockny . Then we head north to return to Canada, including a show supporting the @theadictsofficial in Quebec. Then, we drop back into the states for some fun in the Midwest including a special proper Chicago show (TBA!) and a show supporting @knockedloosehc in Nashville. (HOLY!). We’ll be joined by our literal best friends in @nomineemusic for some of these bangers right before we do our run with @realfriendsband in September. Did you get all that? I’m out of breath just thinking about how awesome this will be. Join us! #keepflyingband art: @leightonstollard
EVEN MORE FOXX LOUNGE
53rd & 3rd Shows brings ear shattering punk energy to the lounge on Saturday.
Leading the charge is Toronto’s Cola Heads, who could hold the record for longest gap between performances. After getting together as 12 year olds in 1996, they broke up. They did get back together… fully 15 years later. Depsite the missing time, the group reformed with most of their original songs and have since opened for the likes of Pennywise.
Hotel Murder (who are as intense as the name suggests) also hail from Toronto, and come to Barrie boasting a new album called Demolishitmix.
Speaking of gaps between gigs, Barrie’s Generation Hexxed is back from… Vacation? The gutter? Area 51? good question to ask them when they return to the stage for the first time in 15 months.
The Hysterics (Newmarket) and Triskele (Barrie) are on hand for support.
SUNDAY – What?? Doesn’t everyone crawl back into their domiciles by 6am on Sunday and not return until Wednesday?
Sunday Funday brings in Cudbear, THE HIGHDIVES ABSOLUTELY YOU and GORA to close out the week. This is kind of like when your favourite TV show airs a double episode you weren’t expecting. And it’s an all ages! Assuming everyone is recovered from the weekend, doors for Funday are at 5pm.
