BARRIE CONCERTS THIS WEEK: YOUR WEEKLY GUIDE TO THE CITY’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE
“Without music, life would be a mistake” ― Nietzsche
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
When you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Barrie Concerts This Week: Oct. 28th include…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
Thursday – A big year for local thrashers Cudbear wraps up this week as they celebrate the release of their debut disc; First Bite.
And what better way to announce the arrival of a new album than with cosplay?? Costumes are encouraged, with prizes up for grabs. Alkaline Trio (elements of the Highdives) and The Uber Allies featuring Papa Smurf himself, Shane Heath are on hand to support. Doors at 9pm.
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
Friday – More terrifying tuneage comes to the lounge to kick off the weekend with the Ghost Of Halloween Past show. Barrie’s Crast and Mount Mural lead the way, flanked by Graywater (Newmarket) Toronto’s Andrew La Tona & the Nightshades round out the ticket.
Crast is coming in hot after a slew of releases and gigs this year, and a few guest spots at festivals around the region.
Saturday – Mysterium Images takes the lead on Saturday to present a quartet of awesome acts to close out the week.
Kitchener’s Courage My Love headlines. They’re a three-piece pop punk band melding synth-pop elements with hard rock. The trio have been kicking around since 2009, and in that time they’ve released two albums, earned a Juno nomination, played Warped Tour and scored features in Alternative Press and Canadian Musician magazine. Fans of the mid 2000’s synth/keys/alt sound will be right at home with these guys.
Also on the ticket are Toronto’s Hot Lips and Rival Town (St. Catherine’s)
Hot Lips are also cut from the electro pop cloth, taking inspiration from the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, NIN, and Garbage.
Rival Town are post hardcore. They’ve just signed with Lost Music Collective, and dropped a new album titled “Useless Hands” on October 4th.
Repping Barrie is Flight 97.
