Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Barrie Concerts For The Week Of Aug. 28th
666 Thursday @ The Foxx Lounge
53rd & 3rd Shows return to the lounge with another episode of The New Music Scene, bringing new bands to town to showcase their wares. This week’s ticket includes The Holdouts (Niagara Falls) GURTH (Toronto) Suburbans (Newmarket) and Barrie’s The Hillbirds. The lineup brings loads of punk, folk and a dash of prog to kick off the week, with GURTH having released a debut EP, Autophage, just over a year ago. The Suburbans and The Holdouts have plenty of tuneage in the streaming realms as well. (See the set list below for links)
The Hillbirds are the rookies of the group. Having just formed in 2019, this is their first gig at the Foxx, but they’ve already compiled an impressive catalogue of live shows. Notably, at Toronto’s mecca of live music, the Horseshoe. Early doors at 8pm!

On Friday Barrie’s Lost In Time take centre stage to host Back To School. It’s a donation drive aimed to kit out kids in need with backpacks, paper, pencils and all the other school themed goodies. Expect lots of loudness in support of a great cause.
Saturday it’s even more loudness with a trio of punk and metal aficionados. The Faps headline the eve, with The Therapists (Sudbury) and Mebus (Barrie/Sudbury) on hand for support.
The Faps are…unique. To an extreme. The Moose Jaw duo have been gigging for close to a decade with a genre almost all of their own. It’s punk, it’s metal, it’s jazz-seque, it’s Ska, it’s…Weird Al.
The band have a well earned a reputation for theatrical absurdity, meaning their live shows have the potential for just about anything to happen. And rumors persist a 12 minute drum solo may occur during their set.
