YOUR WEEKLY GUIDE TO BARRIE’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE

“If I cannot fly, let me sing.”Stephen Sondheim

As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.

When you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.

And if you’re an emerging group playing gigs in town, we want to hear from you! Send the finer points to [email protected] and we’ll post your shows here and on our events page.

Barrie Concerts This Week: Sep. 2nd

THE FOXX LOUNGE

The week kicks off at the lounge with metal…pure, unadulterated metal. 666 Thursdays brings a trio of hard listening groups; Malacoda, My Frost and Superchucker.

Oakville’s Malacoda headlines as the first stop on a fall swing through Ontario, promoting their new disc Restless Dreams. These guys have been killing it since 2013 and bring a weird/cool take on songwriting…namely, the use of pop culture and Greek mythology to inspire their lyrics. (Penny Dreadful being the best example) My Frost (Toronto) joins them, ahead of a new album release in October.

Also on the ticket is Toronto’s Superchucker, who have been decimating stages in hogtown for years. They also win this week’s award for a band name that could double as a description for a drunk guy with a weak stomach at a kegger.

Friday expect something more Cutting Edge, with live knife paintings from “Littlebitmisfit“ – Baldassarra Artworks. Musically, the lineup features plenty of punk fusion and metalcore, with 5 groups taking the stage. Pariah, Martian Crisis Unit, Aawks, The Readys and Die Sci-Fi all hail from the Barrie and the surrounding areas and know how to thrash. Doors at 8pm!

MORE FOXX LOUNGE

Saturday the lounge celebrates the return of the School year with a trio of Georgian triangle acts;

Ryan Macintyre, Rockin’ Jay Shaw and Chantal Preston.

Ryan Macintyre is making waves on the Indie scene, having scored a #1 in Canada and top 10 internationally on Reverbnation’s charts in July. And Chantal Preston is finishing up a strong summer of new releases, radio play and live performances. Including a sesh at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.
