And if you’re an emerging group playing gigs in town, we want to hear from you! Send the finer points to [email protected] and we’ll post your shows here and on our events page.

Barrie Concerts This Week: Sep. 23rd

THE FOXX LOUNGE

Pure Grain promo takes the lead for 666 Thursday at the Lounge, as one of Winnipeg’s loudest duos hit the stage.

Mobina Galore come to town off back to back shows in the T dot. They’ve been ripping across Canada promoting a new disc, Don’t Worry. On the current circuit, they’ve opened for the likes of Laura Jane Grace and 88 Fingers Louie. (88 Fingers Louie features frontman Dan Precision, the original guitarist of Rise Against)

The pair have been making loud punk noises since 2011, and they’re pushing through to the mainstream. Punknews.org recently splashed them with a 4 star rating, and CBC Radio 3 has them as one of the Top 15 punk bands in Canada.

Also on the ticket is Mississauga’s Maybe May. Man…that’s alot of M. The trio come to Barrie on the heels of a new EP called ‘The Orange Sessions’ EP. It’s a 5 track collection of acoustics, with each song featuring a collaboration with a friend of the group.

Toronto’s Anthems In Ashes, who have played the likes of Lee’s Palace, Bovine Sex Club and The Hideout and Newmarket’s Ship of Fools, (who posted an…unusual…pic to celebrate their first album’s anniversary) fill out the killer ticket.

MORE FOXX LOUNGE

Friday, it’s Girl Power! And no, before you ask, it’s not anything to do with the Spice Girls. I mean, Jesus…this town has some standards. 5 female led acts grab the mic to cover some of the kick ass bands from the 90s. Including…

SOME DOUBT Covering No Doubt

ANGRY, HYSTERICAL BABES Covering Babes In Toyland

HYSTERICS Covering L7

NOT THAT I CARE Covering The Cranberries

MEGAN ANNE/PARA-Less Covering Paramore $5 at the door at 9pm!

SATURDAY – A senary of bands hit the lounge to close out the week, led by Doghouse Rose and Streetsville’s No Big Deal. Just to clarify, Streetsville IS a real place, even though it totally sounds made up.

The ‘Deal has been gigging, making videos and producing some of the more amusing merch (see: Dick Towels) you are likely to see over the last year. And they scored a nomination for album of the year for the Mississauga Music Awards.

Doghouse Rose bring rebel country and rock n’ roll twang to the stage. They’ve earned a rep for playing everywhere from prisons and dive bars to festivals and honky tonks. So the lounge should bring out their blended best!

Merloaded, The Speed Humps, The Sick Needs and Wayne Kennedy round out the ticket.
