BARRIE CONCERTS THIS WEEK: YOUR WEEKLY GUIDE TO THE CITY’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE

“Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours..”Elton John

As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.

When you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.

And if you’re an emerging group playing gigs in town, we want to hear from you! Send the finer points to [email protected] and we’ll post your shows here and on our events page.

Barrie Concerts This Week: Oct. 21st include…

THE FOXX LOUNGE

The week begins at the Lounge with a trifecta of metalcore. Leading the way is Toronto’s Single Wound, back at the Foxx after a banger in August. Blazing through town on a mini Ontario jaunt, they’ve been gigging all over the province since the summer.

On hand to support is Barrie’s Lost Light, still coasting on the waves from the streaming release of their killer track Alligator in July. Also on the ticket is Diamond Weapon (Toronto) who win our totally unofficial pop culture warrior award of the week for producing a cover of Run With Us, the theme song from the classic 80’s Canadian cartoon The Raccoons! (If you’re over 35 it’s worth admission just to hear the metal version)

MORE FOXX LOUNGE

Friday marks an album release party, which always bring out the best (worst?) in the Foxx faithful. Barrie’s Dead Beyond Fear is releasing their debut full-length album, “Malice For The Hated Enemy” It’s a 13 track compilation, recorded at HK recording Co. The release includes a physical jewel case CD copy from the band or in record stores and hits select digital sources. And they just published their first ever music video for Descent Into Oblivion!

Also on the bill is London’s Kavara, Barrie’s Halfway Through Hell and Esoteric Doctrine (Orillia)

Saturday pre Halloween jitters are in the air for a pre-ghoulish show with a mix of up and comers and established shredders. High Road Pilots leads the way, part of a busy fall for the group after playing the Troubadour Festival in late September.

New City Revival joins them, after debuting on the Foxx stage earlier this year. Overcrook fills out the lineup.
