BARRIE CONCERTS THIS WEEK: YOUR WEEKLY GUIDE TO THE CITY’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE

“Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours..”Elton John

As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.

When you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.

And if you’re an emerging group playing gigs in town, we want to hear from you! Send the finer points to [email protected] and we’ll post your shows here and on our events page.

Barrie Concerts This Week: Oct. 14th include…

THE FOXX LOUNGE

Thursday – Another jammed week kicks off with 666 Thursday and a jewelry show! October Coven will feature a number of local artisans, including D’amulet Jewelry, Loved Jewelry Co. by Cat Morrow, House Morevna – Austin MacLeod, Goldsmith and The Soaring Quill – Amy Thibodeau.

Musically, AAWKS (Barrie) Jerkoff Diary (Toronto) Foolproof (Niagara) and Scott Murray (Barrie) round out the ticket. Foolproof are coming in hot after a big summer of gigs and festivals, and they scored some local radio play and votes in their own backyard this spring during the 97.7 Hits FM Rock Search.

Jerkoff Diary are first timers in Barrie, and win our totally unofficial “most inappropriately descriptive band name of the week” award.

Doors and Pop-Up Sale at 8PM Free before 9PM Music 8:30PM onward $5 after 9PM

MORE FOXX LOUNGE

Friday – Pure Grain Promos take the mic for a banger to kick off the weekend. Motown’s Boys Of Fall headline the night. They come to town in support of their 2018 disc ‘Better Moments Gold Edition (InVogue Records) which debuted at #7 on the Billboard Alternative New Artist chart .

The Detroit band has been kicking it since 2011 and have gone through a couple of lineup and sound changes over the years. And they have the distinction of being one of only a handful (we presume) of bands to record an album...in a funeral home.

Toronto’s Call The Wolf Rock (CTW to their friends) and Barrie’s Rosewood Annie round out the bill.

Saturday – Atlas Empire Returns!

In addition to sounding like a wicked ass comic book movie title, it’s also a descriptor of Saturday at the lounge. The Glasgow trio first jammed in Barrie this past Spring, although they’ve toured the Great White North a few times. And although they are based in Scotland, there’s a distinct maple syrup quality to the band in the from of bassist Robert Hasebe, who hails from Toronto.

The band bring a unique blend of progressive, punk and ambient to the stage. And they’re coming in hot to support their latest album, The Stratosphere Beneath Our Feet. (Which also sounds like a wicked ass comic title)

Local thrashers Tangents (Barrie/Orillia), Newmarket’s Razorbath and Driven With Agression fill out your score card.

Sunday – Although it is extremely RARE, the Foxx does open it’s doors on Sundays. Usually coinciding with some manner of cosmic event (like a black hole being formed) but it’s occurring again this week.

An all ages jam kicks off at 6pm, featuring The Saydes, No Big Deal, Not That I Care and Duantless.
