The Editorial Spread
Falling into a routine of using the same old retailers and brands that you’re used to can become mundane. Of course you’re always going to have your favs. Using our artistic drive, we’ve created an editorial piece collaborating with some of our city’s hidden gems. So you can step out of those comfort zones (or perhaps not so comforting) and get the latest in what’s trending.
The Editorial Spread - Avant Garde Inspired
This month’s ‘collab’ was inspired by Avant-garde, fashion, art, and the rush to the altar.
We started off by connecting with Loved Again Bridal Boutique, a bridal consignment store that now offers formal menswear through their partnership with Timpano’s Suit and tux. With our models in tow, the process of finding the perfect dress and tux were simplified by having both in the same location. Going with consignment allows for affordability without losing style. Among the many designer dresses, we even tried on a Vera Wang.
Choosing a location was easy. With the Queens being under renovation we utilized the in between stage of the rubble; bringing in the historical features in its current state. With a visual concept in mind we created a path to an Avant-garde inspired editorial shoot. The plans for turning The Queens into a luxury venue might still be underway, but our story gives you a glimpse of the possibilities.
Knowing we wanted an Avant-garde look, Headquarters was on the top of our mind. Their full service salon with a kick ass barber twist, and their fresh, modern, contemporary and edgy style made them a no brainer. They brought the vision to life with Avant-garde styling to our bride, and a retro finger wave for our groom.
With any wedding, florals are a must. The obvious choice for us was Fleurish, our local social enterprise florist here in Barrie. Connecting through a simple phone call and an inspiration photo of our concept and theme, the resulting bouquet and boutonnieres was spot on for our vision. She even gave us an extra boutonniere that Headquarters was able to add to our bride’s hair.
High fashion shoots require expert makeup artistry, as does a wedding. With that in mind our top choice was makeup artist and bridal stylist, Angela Wood. Having her own background in high fashion modeling and running a bridal beauty on-the-go company across California, she was the perfect artist for the job. Going over our concept with Angela was easy and she was able to bring the entire look to life.
The final touch was a trip to ZuZu’s Fashion boutique, a downtown premiere fashion destination. By taking our choices of bridal wear; they were able to accent them with their expertise in fashion accessories.
Uncovering these local gems we discovered, by following our own shop local slogan, that this city has a small town feel with big city style… see you for the next one.
