So the question is – Do logos influence what you wear?
Just What has Changed?
Not that long ago, wearing a visible logo was considered a faux pas. Nowadays at red carpet events everywhere, we see film stars along with the rich and famous swathed in their favorite logos.
The look of wearing logos seems to have been championed by today’s youth. The hottest trends in fashion, food and even cartoons see huge amounts of social currency with the Gen Z and millennials.
It seems that the quicker item turnover is – the happier consumers are. Even our electronics are branded and now usually with a series number as well. Think Apple IPhone 12 Max Pro Series.
So Is It a Status Symbol?
Asking if it’s simply the status of being at the forefront of consumer trends or more, we discovered a unique answer. Status is not the only draw. Social Media selfies certainly have a lot of play; however we’ve found that younger people adopt particular logos to show allegiance to their “tribe” or cause.
Once a company has aligned themselves as humanitarian in any particular and popular niche – they now reap the currency strength of marketing in that direction.
Whether it’s the “gender fluidity” stance behind the Gucci double G’s or the Breast Cancer Research of Under Armour Wear, our youth have been trained by our rich and famous to Promote! Promote! Promote!
An Interesting Story...
One brand favoured by many, young and old alike, is Polo. The original design was created in 1926 to replace the cumbersome oxfords originally worn to play the sport.
At that time, Rene Lacoste developed his version – actually known as a tennis shirt with a crocodile loge. In 1972 Ralph Lauren reclaimed the shirt, making it a staple in his Polo line. He replaced the crocodile with the now iconic polo player logo, and the rest is history.
What's Your Logo?
With today’s social media, Logos are more recognized than ever before. Even smaller companies put big dollars into the design of their marketing materials. And so they should! Who knows what the next winning logo will be?!?
