Road Trippin' - Part 2

Road Trippin’ – Part 2

As we welcome summer amid reopenings, we can all indulge in notions of traditional summer fare like patios, barbecues…and road trips!

Of course, Barrie’s central location makes us a prime hub to launch car voyages through the warm weather months.  Every Thursday through September, we’ll bring a new Ontario destination you can reach in a reasonable amount of travel time. And if you’ve got some suggestions, we want to hear them!

Road Trippin’ – Part 2

A visit to Elora feels like a trip back in time.

First up, take a stroll through the beautiful town and visit the old mill in the heart of the town.

Originally hand-built by Scottish laborers between 1851 and 1859, the Elora Mill on the Grand River is the historic heart and signature sight of Elora. Overlooking the stunning Elora Gorge, the exquisite limestone building—formerly home to a gristmill, sawmill, wool factory, shops, and inn—was rebuilt as the luxurious Elora Mill Hotel and Spa just a few years ago.

Next up, hike the nearby riverside trails for unobstructed views of the gorge’s 72-foot-high cliffs. If you want to get wet, rent a tube to float down the Grand River and through the gorge. Or just spend some time at the quarry taking in the stunning views.

You can get to Elora in about an hour and 45 minutes.
