Some who have been offered scholarships in some of the top universities. This can only happen due to the dedication of all the coaching and background staff.  The parents are also active participate in the running of the club.

Big Congratulations to the U14 and Under 18 boys blue teams winning the Orangeville Stormfront 2019 Tournament

Barrie’s Set List

We’re Curating a Collection of Barrie Artists on Spotify And We Want Your Picks!

If you’ve been visiting this website with any regularity, you know that we pray at the church of music.

We’re not quite Rob Gordon of High Fidelity level when it comes to musical knowledge, but we’re all in on Barrie’s music scene and the local artists who are making the rest of the region sit up and take notice.

So on top of our weekly gigs blog and podcast, we’re wading into Spotify’s waters to help promote Barrie based artists.

Barrie’s Set List hits Spotify today, and it’s comprised entirely of local artists with music on the app . And we want your help!

Please have a look and tell us about any bands that we missed. (It’s only at 21 right now) And if you’re a fan of the bands we already have, fire us your tune preferences!

We will update the playlist every week with different tracks and artists, so it’s always evolving.

*We looked at doing this through Bandcamp, because so many more artists have their stuff up there. But unfortunately they don’t offer playlist options, so Spotify is the best shareable option.

So let’s light this up…as it were. Send in your suggestions via email to [email protected], or through DMs on our FB and Insta pages.

You can follow the playlist directly on Spotify right here.

Social Recap: The Week That Was in Barrie May 27th – Jun 2

All The Good (And Occasional) Bad of What Went Down in Barrie Last Week

There are three certainties in life…

Death.

Taxes.

Social media.

And if you are tweeting, posting and talking about Barrie on social media, we want to hear from you! Every week we will do a quick recap of the week that was in Barrie based on your pics, posts and videos.

Whether it’s concerts, store openings, foodie reviews, feelgood stories, fun facts about Barrie, even bizarre bird formations over the marina, we want to share it.

Have you checked out the awesome that is Shift Happens Acroyoga yet? They are becoming a regular on our recap because seemingly every week they are on the streets to exhibit Spider-Man level contortion skills. Like this Ninja-esque craziness from Sunday…

The answer: Yes

The Question: Does Barrie need another great taco joint?

And we are lucky to have Yo!!Taco downtown to fill that need. It was their grand opening on Saturday and there was salsa infused love in the air…

The Georgian College Auto show rolled into town this week, but beyond the incredible lineup of cars and exhibits…the real star was Bentley. As captured by @titanlfg

Also…Batman.

Among the great things about Spring and Summer in Barrie, is the outdoor movie options. Including the Drive In; where @tyleradam86 went this weekend.

Did you take part in the Honda Waterfront run on Sunday? These guys sure did!

And finally, did you know that Barrie has a Medieval Sword play club? And that you can actually learn ancient fighting skills? Classes were happening this Sunday, taught by the aptly named @kaitlynthedecapitator

When you are out about in town, use the hashtag #BarrieUncovered,   and/or tag us on Twitter, Instagram and FB! We’ll feature your “stuff’!

13 Things To Do In Barrie In June

Ladies Night out in Barrie

Self Improvement, Outdoor Activities, and Much More For You To Enjoy This Month

As we’ve mused recently, it seems as though 2019 is whipping by at Warp 9. So it is absolutely vital that we all get out and start enjoying the warm weather! Because before you know it…this happens…

Look, we’re sorry to have done that. But now you feel far more motivated to jump off the couch, right?? So get thee out of the house and try…

YOGA, MEDITATION & EDUCATION

Self improvement is one of the many things we tend to let slide as life gets busier. Don’t neglect yourself this month!

Barrie offers a boatload of options for personal enrichment; including continuing education course at Georgian, language courses at College Boreal, multiple types of yoga, and training in meditation.

If Yoga and meditation are areas in particular you’d like to explore, check out this class introduction from Sarah Melody.

GET OUTDOORS, DAMMIT

Besides the terrific assortment of walking and hiking trails in town, June is the unofficial kickoff of the outdoor season in Barrie. Late in the month is the premier of the Outdoor Movies season from the Barrie Film Festival.

And on June 9th the Local Love Market returns to the east end of the city. The event features 25 vendors, including artisans, awesome food, and interactivity. You can find stuff for bath, body, health + wellness, jewelry, and clothing.

And don’t forget about the Barrie Baycats! The reigning IBL champs have a number of home games this month, tickets are just $5

CONCERTS & PINTS

There is never a shortage of live music options in Barrie, and June will see a boatload of talented artists take the stage this month.

And if you fancy yourself the next Drake, you can put your talent on the line at the Simcoe Rising Star Challenge on June 23rd at the Ferndale Banquet Hall.

But if you are looking for more of a cerebral night out, consider this low key night at Flying Monkey’s. It’s a free non-partisan get-together and open discussion for anyone interested in learning about and getting involved in politics.

And of course, if it’s just the wobbly pop you are keen on, you can take the weight off at one of the great patios in town with an adult beverage from a local craft brewery.

FATHER’S DAY! MORE BOOZE! AND SIGN MAKING

Ever wonder how everyone is making those charming rustic signs and gifts that you can’t get out of a store without buying? A local designer wants to show you how…and did we mention, there is WINE!

On June 27th a workshop is being held at Heritage Estate Winery & Cidery where you can get introduced to Chalk Couture, a simple DIY home decor system that is uber popular.

And just in time for Father’s Day, the Speakcheesy is putting together a boozey afternoon of Scotch and Cheese for the man of the house. Trust us when we say, just about EVERY Dad would be enthused about spending their day with snacks and whiskey.

A Time To Shine

Barrie’s Youth Haven Holds a Special Prom Night

Prom night should be a memory that stays with you forever.

Yet for many thousands of youth across Canada, prom never happens.

Whether through a lack of family support, not finishing high school, or not having a home at all, there are many teenagers who simply don’t get the chance to take part in one of the most cherished moments of growing up.

In Barrie, Youth Haven is about to make that memory for many local teens.

On June 6th, the emergency shelter presents A Time To Shine at Ferndale Banquet Hall.

The evening is a Prom for those who didn’t get to attend their own night, with all of the attendant features.

All the youth attending will be outfitted with suits or gowns, and provided makeup and hair styling. Professional pictures will be taken, live music is being provided, as well tons of food and drinks.

A host of community members have stepped up to donate services, volunteer or funds to purchase tickets for youth.

There are still slots to purchase, as well as volunteer opportunities. All money raised over and above the cost of Prom will support YH’s programs in their mission to assist youth experiencing homelessness.

You can find out more and make a donation to Youth Haven right here.
