Make Dad’s Day a Treat
The easing of restrictions and the uptick in temperatures make for a fun combination to celebrate all things Dad this year.
Although we can’t do everything we want with the elder father figures, we’re not totally without options.
And if you are need of a last minute gift idea or two, hang around for the bonus section of the blog!
Father’s Day in Barrie – The Ultimate Guide
Patios, Patios, Patios
In terms of ideas, this is an oldie, but still a goodie. A meal and a adult beverage or two in the sun is an ideal kick off or finish to your day . After so many months cooped up inside, it might be just what the Doctor ordered. Although the demand will be high (booking in advance is a good idea) downtown Barrie is awash in outdoor dining.
If your Dad is sports inclined, get him to Malone’s Pint House on Bradford street to take in their big outdoor screen!
Drive In Movies
Speaking of big screens, drive in movie theatres are open once again, including Sunset Drive in Barrie.
They’re cranking up the flicks every weekend, including on Father’s Day. A Quiet Place II, Jurassic Park and Top Gun will be running through this week, and concession stands are open, so you can go all out on popcorn and hot dogs.
The betting here is that the vast majority of those reading this blog have at least one Dad/Grandad who would love nothing more than spending their day on the links taking mulligans. With golf courses back in action, we’re spoiled for choice in this region for 18 holes.
Beaches and Parks
Sunday’s forecast looks ideal for some outdoor shenanigans, and there are worse ways to spend Father’s Day than collecting sun rays lakeside or in the park.
If you want to make it an El Fresco event, pack a lunch and set up camp for the afternoon. Soccer fan in the fam? Be sure to bring along a speaker to stream the day’s matches from Euro 2020. A couple of hours in nature with a nice meal can be as special as a 4 course extravaganza.
Time travel doesn’t always require a DeLorean and a crazy haired Doctor.
Take advantage of some of the cool vintage locations around Barrie and let Dad revel in his youth. Surf the vinyl and CD racks at BJ Record’s or The Record Market downtown with your elder statesmen (and listen to his concert going stories for the 42nd time)
After that, head over to Last Level Lounge’s patio and partake in some Super Nintendo while sipping on cocktails, or nosh from Chavo Crepes.
BINGE ON DAD JOKES
Encoded in every father’s DNA is the ability to generate a seemingly infinite number of puns and unfunny jokes. Instead of collectively groaning and pretending you didn’t hear them, for one day at least, celebrate the corniness!
Find a few lists online and swap awful Dad jokes around the dinner table or patio. Challenge Dad to a joke off. If you’re in need of inspiration, you can check out our Humour For Hunger live stream videos, featuring some of the best comics in the region!
BONUS! LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEAS
