9 Things To Do In June In The Barrie Area

Summer officially arrives in just a few weeks, and with it a ton of cool stuff to check out around the 705 region.

Scroll on for a list of unique happenings across the Barrie area this month…

Hit A Splash Pad

Water infused parks are the perfect escape with the famjam on a hot day, especially if you don’t access to a pool or the beach. And luckily, Barrie and the surrounding areas are…swimming…(we’ll pause while you groan) with aqua fountain options.

In Barrie, both Heritage Park and Lampman are active. Lampman in particular is a prime destination for warm weather fun; this full-service park features basketball and tennis courts, a baseball diamond, skate park, playground, and a gazebo.

Jeopardy aficionados have plenty of options to show off their brain buster chops this month.

The Queens hosts trivia every Thursday night, and Redline Brewhouse also offers skill testing questions through the summer.

Fionn MacCool’s is also hosting a night of general knowledge throwdowns through June and July.

Strawberry Fest

Kick off the strawberry season at Barrie Hill Farms on the 25th and 26th. You can pick your own batch, or grab a box or two of deliciousness from the market.

Beyond the plucking, there will be live music and even a magician on hand to entertain patrons.

Simcoe County Theatre Festival

The first ever Simcoe County Theatre Fest happens this month, with six performances taking over the 5 Points Theatre, starting on June 15th.

The festival features talented writers and performers from all over the region, and includes workshops and networking opportunities throughout the week.

You can grab tickets from Theatre By The Bay’s website!

Open Air Dunlop

Every Saturday through the summer, you can enjoy a walk through Barrie’s downtown core.

With plenty of indie stores, cafes and pubs to enjoy, it’s the perfect excuse to stretch your legs and spend a weekend frequenting the city’s main throughway.

Troubadour Festival

Speaking of downtown, the Troubadour Festival returns to Barrie later in the month, with a performance from Natalie MacMaster headlining.

The shows happen at Meridian Place.

Borden Air Show

The Base Borden air show returns to the skies above the base on the 18th and 19th.

Besides the air show, there are helicopter rides, bouncy castles, tours and a beer garden for the 18+ crowd.

Tall Pines Music Fest

Tall Pines Music and Arts Festival is a two-day, community-focused, culturally-curated outdoor event, ioming to Muskoka for its inaugural year, taking place June 4 and 5 at Muskoka Wharf Sports Field.

With headliners Big Wreck and The Beaches, and all of the usual concert fest type fun, it’s definitely an idea for music fans in the house.

Take An Audio Tour

Did you know there are guided audio tours of the 400 and 11 series highways?

Tripvia Tours has a selection of audio guides through your smartphone that will automatically play as you approach points of interest on the way to cottage country. The guides are available between Toronto and Huntsville and include histories of the region, as well as factoids about the geography of the scenery.

You can find out more about the audio accompaniment right here.
