    6 Farmer’s Markets To Check Out This Season

    As spring rolls into summer (we swear, it IS coming) more and more local produce will be hitting the open air at farmers markets around the region.

    Foodies on a quest for fresh nosh in support of local farmers, bakers and craftspeople need only to look to their GPS for vibrant destinations to check out.

    Whether in a building or hosted in the great outdoors, these markets all have the character and goods to make each a must visit this season.

    6 Farmer’s Markets To Check Out This Season

    Barrie

    Start in your own backyard! The Barrie market has been operating since 1846, and although it’s a year round operation, the outdoor portion begins this month. Find them at city hall from 8am-12pm every Saturday.

    Orillia

    Another longstanding market, Orillia’s summer’s market features over 30 vendors. You’ll find a smorgasboard of offerings, including gluten free baked goods, young entrepreneurial vendors, and recently local breweries.

    Happening Saturdays from 8 to Noon, at the library.

    Coldwater

    This small local outdoor market is tucked away on the grounds of the historic Coldwater Mill, built in 1833.

    The market offers a variety of products including local fresh and organic produce, herbs, baking, preserves, honey, maple syrup, beef, pork and chicken. You can also check out the Coldwater Mill’s Local Artisan Boutique, featuring more than 35 vendors, inside the mill.

    Creemore

    Creemore’s market is celebrating its 25th year this season, so you can expect a few celebratory events through the year.

    Another market with tons of produce, ready to eat meals, and crafts for sale, there’s also some of the best coffee in the area. And proceeds from the java sales go to support local charities!

    Opening May 21st.

    Collingwood

    If you are looking for a market that is serious about supporting local, Collingwood is the destination for you.

    The market adheres to a strict 100-mile market (only accepting produce from within 100 miles of the market).

    With over 70 vendors, kids activities and live music, it’s another market that should be on your list this summer.

    Running every Saturday from May to October at the Second and Pine Street municipal parking lot.

    Wasaga Beach

    Relatively new to the market scene (starting in 2015) Wasaga’s market is ideal for late risers, as it runs from 4-8pm on Tuesdays.

    An ideal spot to stop off for dinner ingredients on your way back from the beach, it runs at the Rexplex, beginning in June.
