A CELEBRATION OF BARRIE’S BUSINESS SECTOR
(Adam Smith talking with the Manufacturing Sector Business Excellence Award Winners MediPharm Labs)
Thursday the 8th of November was one of the biggest nights for Barrie businesses.
The annual Barrie Chamber of Commerce and City of Barrie business awards took place at Liberty North. A night where the city of Barrie could showcase a variety of businesses, big, medium and small. Businesses that cover the whole spectrum of the community, from cannabis extraction services to fancy cakes, from sports activities to lice removal.

It was a truly memorable night, it brought together everything that typifies the entrepreneurial spirit of Barrie. The growth of Barrie over the last few years has been phenomenal, a lot of this has been pushed by these companies and their owner’s vision. Not just the ones at the event but many more businesses in and around Barrie who provide many employment opportunities.
And it wasn’t limited to businesses for profit. There was recognition for non-profit and charitable organizations as well, and this is an area that is close to our hearts. In this category there were 3 wonderful nominees, all of the nominees were worthy winners but of course, there can only be one, so congratulations to Ripple of Kindness.
There were also awards for company employer of the year, one for employee of the year and one for the young professional of the year. It was an all-encompassing recognition of individuals as well as businesses.

Barrie Uncovered is a member of the Chamber but until last night we haven’t been an active member.
Being at this night and watching the interaction between all the attendees and the organization of the Chamber makes us realize we need to be more active, not for awards but because of what the Chamber brings to Barrie.
The night went flawlessly, the videos of all the nominees were excellent, the interviews with the winners had a distinct late-night chat show feel, and the hall was decorated to make the attendees feel special.

In speaking Christine Puma and Adam Smith, who are members of the Chamber committee, we realized the effort that went into the event to make it a success.
It starts in the spring with a call to the community for nominees, this carries on throughout the summer. Then the judges have the unenviable task of cutting the many nominees down to 3 per category.
Meanwhile, another committee is organizing the night, getting the sponsors and locations arranged to support the event.
As Adam Smith said, “after 6 months of work Barrie has a 3 ½ show and then it is over for another year”. All the attendees see is a night of celebration of Barrie businesses, not the hard work the committee that went into making the gala a triumph. To be honest, I can’t put into words the work that was put into making this night such a success. I am sure most attendees would not comprehend the dedication that went into making the event a victory for Barrie and their many entrepreneurs!

So thank you Barrie Chamber of Commerce, it was inspirational to listen to these business owners talk so enthusiastically about what drives them. To any business reading this all I can say if you are not a member of the Chamber call them and get your application in.
Below are all the winners of the awards and the nominees all of whom we would like to congratulate:
