Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.

And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.

With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.

This week why don’t you try…

RAINBOW IN THE DARK – REDLINE BREWERY

The initial pour of the Rainbow is a murky, dark orange colour, capped by a half-inch of frothy white head. The hazy look is both inviting and appropriate for the fall season, mirroring the emergence of autumn colours.

The first aromas encapsulate citrus, honey and rye. That’s an uncommon approach for an IPA. But Rainbow makes it work as a malt backbone, supported by traces of tropical fruit and lemongrass. The flavours follow suit with a dank, hoppy finish and a welcoming bitterness. The textures and sensations flow through the mouth and the nose and heighten the taste buds through the first few gulps.

A creamy medium-bodied beer with medium carbonation and smooth aftertastes, it’s an overall pleasant hoppy bevy. With an ABV of 6.6, it’s a pace pint for sure, but one you can stick with for the entire sitting. Best paired with something starchy or zesty to add to the overall taste experience.
