Flying Monkey’s Mythology Lives Up To It’s Name

Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.

And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.

With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.

This week why don’t your try…

Fun fact! Flying Monkey’s and a host of other local craft breweries will be out and about today through Sunday at the Barrie Craft Beer and Barbecue Festival.

So if this review prompts you to try the real thing, head over to Meridian Place to find a mug. Or seven.

The initial pours is a translucent golden yellow with a substantial, fluffy white head that retains well. The first sniffs bring a lot of bread, even before your nose gets near it. When you do get closer, it’s complimented by hints of grass, pepper and lemon.

You’ll definitely notice the crispness, which is ideal for a pilsner. There’s a welcome balance between the bready malts and the floral hops. As you push on through the sitting, some spice lingers, but it finishes strongly and cleanly.

Some might find it a bit thick for a pilsner, although it does not detract from the overall refreshing timber.

If you are looking for pairings, Pilsners are a great balance to spicy foods. However if you are a sweet tooth aficionado, Mythology might go well with a dessert. Because beer and ice cream CAN mix.

At 5.3% ABV, it’s right on the edge of being too much, so you can easily stick with it through the entire night.
