TGIF: Fireworks and Karate
Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.
And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.
With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.
This week why don’t your try…
Fireworks And Karate: Flying Monkeys
The first pour is a hazy pale golden colour, sporting one finger of frothy, soapy white head that collapses gradually. That gives way to a creamy collar and bubbly cap, and a slight lace.
The nose detects initial stone fruit, lemons and wheaty grains, with subtler hints of lime zest and agave also permeating. The mixture of odors lean toward a sour IPA.
The first taste brings up bready pale malts and agave syrup sweetness/spiciness at the forefront, with orange and lime following. It finishes with a distinct blend of lemon, grapefruit pith, red berries, coconut and tequila/agave flavour. That gives way to a somewhat nutmeg spice sensation, finishing with a salty/sweet aftertaste.
Finally, expect a light-medium in body, with moderate carbonation and a tongue-coating mouthfeel that reinforces the overall taste.
By the numbers:
ABV 4.5% alc./vol. | 20 IBUs
Malts: 2-Row Pale Malt, Wheat Malt
Hops: African Queen, Southern Passion
Dry-Hopping: Cashmere, Sabro, Amarillo
Special Additions: Lime Juice, Orange Juice Concentrate, Agave Syrup, Kosher Salt
