TGIF: BATTER UP

Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.

And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.

With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.

This week why don’t your try…

LÜMBERBRÄU LIGHT LAGER – SAWDUST CITY

TGIF: BATTER UP

The first look reveals a hazy, golden yellow after the initial pour. As the drink settles, a distinct creamy head foam circles the glass and establishes itself firmly. There is a slight disintegration, leaving a lacy swirl, while a healthy dose of bubbles float to the top.

The initial smell brings forth aromas of mango, coconut and passionfruit. There is also a definite pine odor in and under the sitting, which greets you right from the start.

Tasting first reveals a pleasant blend of juicy hops, reinforced by the tangy mango and passionfruit initially encountered earlier. The hops are present throughout and assert themselves slightly more after the first swirl around the mouth. Mouthfeel is carbonated, but only moderately.

A silky body emerges with a clean finish to the sitting, as the inviting aromas and tastes leave your thirst quenched. Lümberbräu Light Lager was released in the summer of 2019 as a tribute to the Lumberkings slow-pitch baseball team, and it’s definitely a prime lager for enjoying the Jays game at home.
