“Without music, life would be a mistake” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Barrie Concerts This Week include…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
Pure Grain Promo kicks off the week at the Lounge with a slightly large event.
666 Thursdays is here and the joint brings Fate’s Got a Driver to lead it’s first ticket. You might not be too familiar with Fate. But you almost certainly will have heard of their lead guitarist Eddie Reyes. He was the founder of Taking Back Sunday, the Long Island alt rockers who appeared regularly on Billboard and the late night talk show circuit in the mid 2000s. They also found their way on to the soundtracks for Spider Man 2 and Transformers.
Fate’s Got a Driver comes to town on the heels of a eponymous self released debut EP. The band brings a slice of Taking Back Sunday to the mic, while fans of Deftones and Glassjaw will also find symmetry.
Barrie’s Latchkey and Oaks Bentley opens. Both are new (ish) to the local scene, but have plenty of original tuneage in the streaming world. Doors are at 9pm
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
FRIDAY – Lazy Ass Destroyer (who wins the award for best band name of the week) blasts out of Cincinnati and into the lounge. This is raw, hip-hop electro rock that evokes Beastie Boys and Rob Zombie. LAD has opened for the likes of Method Man, Redman and Static X over the years. And he’s been known to drop a Ninja kick or two…so consider yourself warned.
Joined by No Big Deal (Streetsville) and Onyx band (London)
Not for the feint of heart. Or of hearing!
SATURDAY – Back after more than ten years, Future History returns to Barrie and the lounge. They’ve been busy in the past decade , racking up loads of tour stops and several Indy music awards. Toronto Live Music Examiner described their music as “accessible, but with the power to reach a broad audience”
JoJo Worthington (Kitchener) and Barrie’s own Club Silencio and House Art are on hand to support.
