THE BEST OF BARRIE’S CONCERTS THIS WEEK
“Music Can Name The Unameable” – Leonard Bernstein
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re feeling an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
And if you’re an emerging group playing gigs in town, we want to hear from you! Send the finer points to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll post your shows here and on our events page.
Happening this week on the stage in Barrie…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
THURSDAY – May is just the beginning of the summer touring season, and it’s kicking off in style here in Barrie with Dead Tired rolling into town. Based out of the Hammer, they are a delight in thrash and fronted by Alexisonfire’s George Petit. Backed up by a couple of hometown heroes, A Particle Apart and The Highdives, this should be loud and lit.
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
FRIDAY – It will be one of the few nights that a local band isn’t part of the ticket at the Lounge, but the quality of out of town guests more than make up for it.
Old Wives are a punk trio out of Edmonton (but we won’t hold that against them) and stop in at the lounge on their way to Pouzza Fest. Sudbury will be represented by the Lightmares, a 90s-esque grunge/rock act.
They are joined by headliners Hightower, one of Paris’s loudest and most entertaining rock groups.
SATURDAY – It’s always a special night when a band makes their stage debut, and Saturday marks the pop of the cherry for Barrie’s 30 Going on 13. They are a recently formed group and everyone involved has been kicking around the local music scene. Cannot wait to see them bring it.
Also on the ticket is Hit The Switch, who are back with new music after a long stretch, and Calgary’s Downway, a veteran group who might be familiar to Much Music fans of a certain vintage. They got quite a bit of video play in the mid 90s on the channel (back in the days when they actually, ya know…played music videos) and have toured with the likes of Goldfinger and Strung Out over the years. Cash at the door!
