THE BEST OF BARRIE’S CONCERTS THIS WEEK
“Music Can Name The Unameable” – Leonard Bernstein
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re feeling an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Happening this week on the stage in Barrie…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
THURSDAY – NMT packs in a trio of newcomers, including Barrie’s own Absolutely You, making their Foxx stage debut. The local guys are joined by a couple of high octane alternative bands; Excuses Excuses and Like Satellites out of Toronto.
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
FRIDAY – A wise person once said, “The best birthdays are the ones you never remember”
Okay it wasn’t a wise person at all…we just made it up.
But, considering that Friday is the 4th anniversary bash for the Foxx, it’s possible the jam will be one of those nights that comes back to you in bits and pieces in the days after.
Musically, it will be a huge ticket of local talent on the stage. Crast, Mount Mural and High Road Pilots represent the city by the lake, with headliners The Readys and Bigfoots Hand rounding out the gig.
SATURDAY – It’s hard to top a birthday bash, but the crew at the Lounge shall attempt with a record release party. Heavy Petter’s new disc Such A Drag hits the download sites this month. And as an added cool AF retro bonus, it’s also available on caseette via Reel Too Real Records.
Joining them are Artificial Dissemination (Hamilton) The Hysterics (Newmarket) and Bigfoot Portal Crisis (possibly the only occurrence in musical history of two bands with the name Bigfoot playing a venue back to back)
Doors at 9pm
SUNDAY – We aren’t quite sure what will happen when the Foxx opens on a Sunday, since it’s so rarely happened. Brace yourself for possible black hole like phenomena as the universe attempts to course correct.
Assuming that doesn’t happen, the Lounge hosts the annual Youth Battle of the Bands at 4pm.
Local bands aged 21 and under will be on hand to vie for the title of Simcoe County’s Best Young Band!
4:00pm – Gora
4:25pm – Cudbear
4:50pm – Crowfoot
5:25pm – James Marrin & the Midnight Riders
5:50pm – The Saydes
6:15pm – Absolutely You
And the prizes are nothing to sneeze at either, including cash, $100 MusicPro Gift Card, and a recording package from Unity Market Studios.
