THE BEST OF BARRIE CONCERTS THIS WEEK
“Music Is The Wine That Fills The Cup of Silence” – Robert Fripp
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Happening this week on the stage in Barrie…
Any time you have the chance to hear a live performance from a band with a name like King Krush…you should take advantage of it. The alliteration and monster movie references alone are worth the price of admission. And on top of that, they are effin’ good! The group rolls through town for NMT at the Lounge on the leg of a mini Ontario tour. A first timer in Barrie, these guys bring an intriguing blend of blues, prog rock and funk.
On hand to support them are a trio of Barrie acts; the Saydes, Awwks and 1+1.
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
FRIDAY – Cousin Jack leads the way as the Canada Day weekend kicks off at the Foxx. Fresh off their new album release earlier this year, the Barrie natives have been riding high with radio play and loads of streaming spins. Friday’s show will be even more of an event as it will be lead singer Lucas Miller’s last gig.
Joining them are The Lad Classic, Live Animals and Sweet Tooth.
SATURDAY – As if the first long weekend of the summer wasn’t enough of an excuse to kill it on Saturday, the night also offers you a stage debut and an anniversary.
Black Cat Attack celebrates 12 years of touring and torching. Hailing from Oshawa (don’t hold that against them) these guys bring their celebratory hardcore/rock infused show to Barrie.
And making their Lounge debut are Barrie’s latest sludge/metal/industrial enthusiasts Philmor Graves. And check out their sensational Facebook cover image to see why they also win this week’s award for “band with photos most inspired by Darth Vader”
Joining them are local up and comers 30 going on 13, Peterborough’s Bonnavilles and last minute addition Warcall, out of Montreal. Cash at the door when they open at 9!
Elsewhere on the Barrie concert scene…
Friday marks the return of 90s Indie/punk/reggae staple Ill Scarlett to Barrie. Flanked by locals Advancing Low Lives and Cudbear, this is a stop on their cross Canada All Day With It tour. (The album, which went gold in Canada, came out 12 freakin’ years ago, if you can believe it)
sTs Promotions presents the show, and manager Chris Harrington has a juicy tidbit to broadcast on the day of the show. All we could get out of him was “We have a big announcement about a concert series supporting indie bands” Stay tuned!
