“When Music Hits You, You Feel No Pain” ― Bob Marley
As any veteran of Barrie’s live music scene will tell you, there aren’t many nights off here.
If you’re game for going out, the city by the Lake is guaranteed to have a gig for you every week. Whether you’re craving an alt rock blowout, an intimate jazz ensemble or a laid back acoustic set, Thursday through Saturday in Barrie are jammed with jams from local talent and edgy bands from across the region.
Barrie Concerts This Week include…
THE FOXX LOUNGE
THURSDAY – Sparrows (Toronto via Ottawa) takes the lead for the first act of the trio of shows at the Lounge. The “Angry Space Rock Children” come to town as the first stop on a tour promoting their upcoming LP Failed Gods. Toronto live music vets should hit up the track called Fifth Helena Drive, inspired by a dish at the legendary Sneaky Dee’s.
Joining them on the ticket are Twice On Tuesday, out of Quebec City. Which we are assuming means they’ll swear at hecklers in both official languages. Consider yourself WARNED. Oakville’s Weigh The Anchor and Barrie’s Ink round out the bill.

FRIDAY – The list of artists who owe their fame to performing at a British Columbia kegger is (we imagine) fairly short. Yet that’s exactly how Friday’s headliner got his start. Jesse Stewart hit YouTube in 2014 doing a drunken busker version of Donnie Dumphy’s “Cry Tunes” called Cold Beer. The video went viral, with over 2 million views. It’s a powerful reminder… to never underestimate the power of alcoholic songwriting!
Also on the stage is Barrie’s Heavy Petter. It’s been a busy year for the Petters; they released an album in April (which you can get on Vinly and Cassette) toured a bunch, and played Pouzza Fest.
Daniel May of The Classy Wrecks and Scott Murray of the High Dives take a crack at the solo thing as openers.
MORE FOXX LOUNGE
Saturday is a birthday (of sorts). Jugular returns to the Lounge to launch their new EP, As Birth Becomes Life Becomes Death. The Barrie quartet released the disc online earlier this year, but this marks the physical release. Most of the early reviews for the album have been slices of awesome.
Joining the Jugs (and please don’t track us down and beat us up for making up that nickname) are Barrie’s Lightcatcher and Mavis (Toronto).
Lightcatcher have released a bit of tuneage online but Saturday marks the band’s first official gig! So do your live music duty and support the rookies!
Doors are at 9pm
