 COMEDY & THEATRE

Is there a budding thespian in the house? Get them into class and hone their acting skills with TIFT’s summer camp. It’s by registration only, so be quick to sign up.

If being in front in the stage is more your style, laugh until you throw up at one of the new weekly comedy shows from Laffy Taffy! Sundays at Fionn MacCool’s and Wednesdays at the Ranch offer plenty of vomit inducing laughs. Plus Monday nights at Wrangler’s. Whichever you choose…the key is throwing up.

GET YOUR GAME ON

Screen junkies can score a free game from a system of their choosing when Power Up Gaming offer it’s annual Free Video game day. There’s also a Grassroots tourney at Perplexcity Escape Rooms.

Barrie’s official Scrabble club meets every Wednesday at 6pm at Creating Connection (12 Chase McEachern Way, Barrie) First game begins at 6:15pm.

And if retro gaming is more your speed, Last Level Lounge hosts Pinball tournaments every Thursday!

 YOGA & CONCERTS

It’s never too late to expand your horizons…and your back muscles. And Barrie has plenty of options to try both with Yoga!

And of course, there’s always plenty of live music in town, if you are looking for some post-Yoga fun.

OUTDOOR (AND INDOOR) MOVIES

Possibly the best part of summer in Barrie is the outdoor movie series. Every Wednesday you can watch family friendly flicks at Meridian Place, for free! There’s always popcorn for sale on site and loads of seating.

And the Barrie Film Festival offers up some great programming inside as well. With Screen One and Third Thursday films coming to the Uptown in August. And don’t forget about the two Cineplex options for blockbuster fare.

TAKE ME OUT…TO THE DUSTY TRAILS

Seeing as there is only a few weeks until the kids go back to school, take advantage of the lazy days and get a hike in. Barrie has plenty of trails in town and close by.

And don’t forget about the Barrie Baycats! The reigning IBL champs have a number of home games this month, tickets are just $5.

COOL YOUR JETS

Alright, that wasn’t the most creative headline we’ve ever come up with. But it’s been a long(ish) article! Feel free to comment with a better intro and we’ll use it, okay?

Anyway…the temps tend to soar in August. So when the thermostat does go north of 25 degrees, avail yourself and any small ones in need of a cool off at Splash On! at Centennial Beach, or at one of Barrie’s splash pads.

And keep in mind that Thursday nights through to September are the domain of the Barrie Fire Department’s welcome Hot Summer Nights!
