Barrie’s first professional Canadian boxing champion, Mark Smither, looks to the future, as well as an eventual North American ranking.
Mark Smither’s “Marvelous” championship win
Mark Smither, 29, improved to 7-0 in his pro boxing career on Feb. 26 at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario.
Smither had the Canadian Super Lightweight strap wrapped around his waist coupled with a dominant unanimous decision win against Paul Ispas. With the victory, Smither cements himself in the upper echelon of Barrie, not to mention Simcoe County athletes. Further, he seized a lifelong career goal.
“This has been a dream come true,” Smither shared.

First title defence in Barrie
The newly minted champ sets his sights on a show in his hometown.
“We’re looking at a few dates; there is going to be a fight card in July,” Smither stated.
Tentative dates for Smither’s first defence include July 16 and 23. Smither intends to assert his dominance, regardless of the date or opponent. Ring control and an active jab will make life difficult for future challengers.
“That’s my circle. The centre of the ring is my circle,” he affirmed.

The new goal is winning the North American title
Due to recent success, Smither’s confidence grows with each victory. Moreover, the champ aims to use his Canadian title as a springboard towards a North American Boxing Association ranking. Furthermore, breaking down his opponents and getting the finish remains an objective.
Additionally, winning titles results in more money.
“I’m a prizefighter. I don’t fight for free,” Smither explained.

Setting the record straight
Smither is the first professional boxing champion from Barrie. Likewise, he wants the world to know it.
“I want to make the record clear; I am the first Canadian boxing champion to come out of Barrie and proud to be so,” Smither reiterated.
In addition, none of Smither’s success is possible without the support from Kas Kitchens.
“I’m thankful for them, my sponsors, and equally important, my support system at home. Surely, I couldn’t do it without them,” he confirmed.

Great job Mark!!!
