Barrie Paralympic snowboarder finishes third in semi-final heat

Barrie sports took to the Olympic stage this past weekend. Competitive snowboarder Alex Massie graciously represented his city, competing at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. Massie participated in the Men’s Snowboard Cross SB-LL2 class, finishing second in the Small Final and sixth place overall.

Additionally, Massie finished with the third-best time in the qualifying round at 1:02.65. Massie opened strong in the semi-final heat, benefiting from a collision between USA’s Geros and Japan’s Ichikawa. A costly revert maneuver spoiled an otherwise flawless run for Massie, who wound up losing speed and finished third. Further, Massie fell just shy of a berth into the finals.

While it wasn’t the result he hoped for, Massie showed what Barrie sports athletes are all about and made Canada proud in the process.

Massie recently won his first gold medal at the 2022 World Snow Sports Championships in Lillehammer, Norway. Moreover, Massie previously competed at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games in South Korea.

    Barrie Colts weekend results

The Colts capped off their weekend games with a string of victories. The team carried the momentum from Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Kingston Frontenacs into a Saturday night contest against the Ottawa 67’s, cruising to a 5-2 dub. In addition, left-wing Oliver Smith scored twice to lead the charge.

The @OHLBarrieColts skated to a second straight home win as Oliver Smith led the way with a pair of goals and 2022 #NHLDraft prospect Hunter Haight collected two assists.
