Barrie Sports: Weekend Recap shares the best of the local sports scene!

    Barrie Colts split weekend games

Following a narrow 2-1 victory on Thursday against the Sudbury Wolves, the Colts welcomed the London Knights to Sadlon Arena on Saturday night. Further, the Colts escaped with a 5-4 OT victory over the Knights.

This was the first meeting between the clubs this season.

The Colts surely missed the impact of Tyson Foerster. The returning Foerster notched a hat trick over the Knights while Beau Jelsma scored the overtime winner and his 26th of the season. Significantly, Foerster has four goals and six points in six Colts games this season.

In contrast, the Colts were less successful on Sunday against the North Bay Battalion. Ethan Cardwell scored twice and finished with three points despite a losing effort from the team. Moreover, goaltender Nolan Chartrand was chased halfway through the first period. The young netminder surrendered three goals on five shots.

Furthermore, the Colts sit seven points back of fourth in the OHL’s Eastern Conference standings.

Barrie Baycats ink returning slugger Jake Wilson

Outfielder Jake Wilson returns to the Baycats for the 2022 IBL season. The Barrie, Ontario native amassed a solid 0.362 batting average last season with the Cats. Wilson brings speed and lead-off hitting while excelling as a defensive fielder.

Finally, the Rovers signed two more stars to the women’s roster. Julia Listro, full-back from North York and Alexis Kirton, centre-back from Pickering, join the Rovers for their inaugural campaign. Listro captained Ontario Tech in 2021, while Kirton won both rookie and female athlete of the year in 2017.
