    Simcoe Rovers inaugural debut results

Soccer is alive and well in the Simcoe County region.

Rovers FC played their inaugural home openers on Sunday afternoon. Consequently, the women’s club triumphed dominantly, winning 3-0 over Blue Devils FC. What’s more, the men’s team battled Oakville to a 1-1 draw.

Alyssa Nikkel scored the historic first goal for the Rovers in the 37th minute of the first half.

Additionally, Cloey Uddenberg doubled the lead in the 78th minute. Lia Foster piled on with a third tally late in the contest. It was a decisive victory for the women, setting the tone for a competitive campaign this season.

Afterward, the men’s club took to the pitch at J.C. Massie Field. It was an evenly contested match after a scoreless first half. While the Blue Devils drew first blood early in the second half, the Rovers responded two minutes later thanks to a tally from Leaford Allen. Further, Allen became the first men’s club team member to score a Rovers goal.

Equally important was the solid performance from the Rovers’ goalkeeper Daniel Buckley. The netminder stood tall despite repeated attacks from the Blue Devils. Overall, it was a strong performance from both Rovers teams.

Henceforth, the Rovers compete for League1 Ontario supremacy.
