Barrie Baycats begin their 2022 IBL campaign
It is officially baseball season in the Simcoe County region.
The Barrie Baycats played their home opener last night at Vintage Throne Stadium against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Thus, commencing the team’s 2022 Intercounty Baseball League season. These teams last faced off during the 2021 IBL playoffs, where the Maple Leafs defeated the Baycats in the semifinals.
The Baycats earned an early shot at redemption with a 2-1 victory on Thursday, after the Maple Leafs ended their six-year run as Domenico Cup Champions last year.

Afterward, the Baycats host the Hamilton Cardinals on Saturday at 4 pm. This will be the first of five themed “Junior Baycats” games scheduled for the 2022 season. The Baycats have partnered with Moonwalk Entertainment and Dream Parties to deliver a carnival-like experience for fans in attendance.
Additionally, the game will include inflatable fun and activities, candy floss, snow cones, and live character performers. In-game prizes will also be available. Moreover, the Baycats plan to unveil a variety of fun-filled theme nights for the entire family.
Simcoe County Rovers FC weekend matches
The Rovers look to build off their recent momentum heading into the weekend competition.
Firstly, the Men’s Premier club (3-1-1) travels to North Maple Regional Park Turf #2 to meet Vaughan Azzurri (3-0-1). The matchup will provide the Rovers with stiff competition against another undefeated club. On Wednesday, the Rovers rolled over the previously undefeated Unionville Milliken SC 3-0.
On the women’s side of the pitch, the Rovers take on Unionville Milliken SC. The kick-off begins at 7 pm. Notably, the Rovers remain undefeated (4-0-0). The team has outscored the opposition 10-2.
Comparatively, the Rovers sit top-3 in the Women’s Premier standings. Above all, the club has drawn up a perfect start to the inaugural season while quickly becoming a top contender in League1 Ontario. Barrie Bombers Jr. C lacrosse club news
The Bombers look to rebound this weekend against the Orangeville Northmen.
It’s been a difficult stretch for the Bombers while losing seven consecutive games. The team travels to Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre on Saturday night for a 7 pm match against the Northmen. In addition, the Bombers’ next home game will be on May 28 against the Wilmot Wild.
